TV Week in Review (week of 10/30/11)
This Week in Review's scripted & reality lists turned out to surprise even me. Series not highlighted in awhile return to the scripted list while my reality list boasts an illuminating Tim GunnProject Runway season recap & The Walking Dead's fun & informative aftershow (even though TWD itself didn't make my list). The clip I've embedded for Talking Dead is a fifteen minute aftershow to the aftershow that's every bit as entertaining as the main aftershow. While there weren't enough teen shows to fill that category's usual five slots last week, The Simpsons (a seris that competes in two categories) makes a super-rare double appearance in both the Teen and Outstanding Sitcoms sections. Animation helped MTV make WiR history with Beavis & Butt-Head delivering the network its first no.1 win on any version of my sitcom lists ever. Thanks to Tim Gunn, Lifetime tops my Reality Shows list for the first time in over a year, and, scripted list topper Fringe claims that top spot (also) for the first time in over a year. Fringe's win gives FOX its first top of my list honor since May. May also marked the last time The Good Wife appeared on my hour-long scripted list; Castle's last list appearance was way back in February. So, obviously things got shaken up a bit this outing. There're probably some premieres this week I'm not aware of yet, but a few I'm looking forward to are Coast Guard: Alaska (debuting Wednesday 11/9), the Disney Channel's original movie Geek Charming (premiering Friday 11/11), and Primeval launching another season this Saturday 11/12 on BBC-America. Tonight (Mon 11/7) don't miss the series premiere of Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness on Nickelodeon @ 8:30PM. Now onto my favorite primetime shows from last week... * Warning: videos below may contain spoilers and/or mature content not suitable for all ages *
Runners Up: [tie] Katie Holmes on How I Met Your Mother (CBS) Lake Bell on New Girl (FOX) --------------------------------------------------------------------- * Favorite Teen Shows *
*Rihanna fans can score a sticker promoting her upcoming Talk That Talk album by checking-in here. Talk That Talk drops Nov. 21st. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Trivia Question of the Week: Actress Leslie Mann didn't just appear in Modern Family last week, she also appeared (as a voice) in one of the shows earning [comedic] honorable mention in this column as well. Can you name the honorably mentioned show she also voiced a part for?

1. Project Runway - "Tim Gunn's Behind the Seams of Season 9" (Lifetime) Tim Gunn in "This is for the Birds"
In my last column I claimed to've watched forty-six hours of relevant primetime TV but, due to an error on my part, it turns out the true number was forty-five. I didn't know then that BBC-America's "new" series Whitechapel was originally created in 2009. It's a good show and I'll continue watching it but old shows can't be considered for my Week in Review. This past week I caught forty-nine and a half hours of primetime, definitely at the upper range of my typical column viewing. The one program I missed last week worth lamenting is Supernatural. Whether it was a particularly good or representative episode of the series, I don't know. It just unfortunately aired at the same time as Grimm & Fringe. Since Grimm promptly posted itself OnDemand (this time), I'll trust that'll be their norm and'll therefore catch Supernatural this time instead. From the thirty-two scripted hour-long shows screened for this WiR, Dexter, House, Psych, Burn Notice, and A Gifted Man all barely missed my main list. The Office, New Girl, Rules of Engagement, Happy Endings, and the pilot episode of Allen Gregory came closest to making my sitcoms list. Every teen show I watched this week made my Teen Shows list; there were only four. Believe it or not there weren't many reality shows on last week, at least not among those I follow. The only two I watched that didn't place on my WiR list were Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan & the season premiere of Top Chef: Texas. I decided to skip American Chopper's ten best bikes special, and, I meant to see the second season premiere of Stan Lee's Superhumans (on the History Channel) but missed that one too. Guest stars in close contention for my Guest Star of the Week honor last week, but not mentioned as Runners Up, include Amy Gumenick (on Grimm), Diane Farr (on CSI: Miami) and Parker Posey (on The Good Wife).
Comics loving GetGlue fans can snag stickers for checking-in to the X-Men, the Uncanny X-Men, Six Guns, the New Mutants, and there's also an Agent Coulson sticker offered for checking-in to Kenneth Branagh's Thor. A couple other stickers currently available are for the upcoming film My Week with Marilyn (opening 11/23) and the new season of reality TV show Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys (premiering 11/18).
Four new Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows posters were released last week. Click here to see the new art featuring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Jared Harris, and Noomi Rapace. I'm not familiar with Noomi's body of work (yet) but if only she were from space she'd be perfect. <-- Outhouse inside joke Noomi Rapace for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (in theaters 12/16/11)
As mentioned earlier, Disney's new original Geek Charming looks fun. As a Modern Family fan I'm happy to see Sarah Hyland get her own movie. Check out its clip (below).
Before saying goodbye this week I thought I'd pass along the newly released premiere date of Starz's Spartacus: Vengeance. It'll hit screens Jan. 27th, 2012. Read more about it here. And lastly, as this Friday will be 11-11-11 and since you may be tired of browsing the web 'blindfolded' keep an eye on There Is No Turning Back. Be prepared to take the red pill when the story begins 11-11. Get a glimpse of what the buzz is about here. If you checked out my inaugural music video column earlier this week - I hope you liked it. Relative to recent weeks there's been a bit of a video drought lately, but there's still some interesting stuff worth checking out in there. Have a great week, Be Well & Happy Viewing!

Love your list, dude. I don't know if I get SHOWCASE though? I can see we like a lot of the same shows - that's cool. No wonder you can tolerate my column (hehe). Thanks for sharing your recommendations. I'll look out for Showcase and try to catch an episode of Young Justice too. I've never seen an episode of YJ before.

showcase is a canadian network. I dont get it but I'm all about torrents since I work nights I dont really have much choice.
Young Justice is bad ass. I was skeptical about it but I'd say its as good if not better then JLU. This week it was brutal too.
Nightfly wrote:Congrats!! Allen Gregory is Correct!! You've just earned your 17th trivia medal! Thanks for playing.
I wondered if you'd watched it. I thought its pilot was funnier than the 2nd epi, at least Will Forte was funnier in the pilot. .
I actually liked the second episode a little more then the pilot. Its animation reminds me a little of Ren and Stimpy but a little more polished. Its not great but its entertaining.

Perhaps if I start liking Young Justice it'll lead me to watching JLU.
BTW, if you (or anyone) wanted to make their own lists similar to mine with videos I'd only feel honored by it not butthurt about it. There're enough cool videos on the internet to go around. My column only spotlights a tiny fraction of what's out there any given week. Plus many shows offer multiple videos to choose from. If you turned your list of picks into a frontpage article/column I'd be a loyal reader from day-1.

A) watch it or else. two great shows.
B) Ehhh no real interest other then listing a top 10. I dont really do the whole video thing. My computer has enough trouble with your column as it is.
