Look again, it wasn't coloured any darker. All that happened was that after Grell left, artists drew the bikini with more cloth. Like I said, you're wrong on that. An ear where punk rock came into the mainstream along with new wave, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna was not a conservative time. Ronny was in the White House, but other then the politics, it was not a conservative era. Sometimes, artists simplify costume designs to make them easier to draw. Wally Wood kept altering Power Girl's costume in the 70s because he couldn't be bothered with trying to draw the cape rope under her arm. The belt was another story.

They added a lot of cloth then.

There was definitely a peroiod where the swimsuit's stonach area was colored a darker blue than Shady's normal skin tone.

It really sucks because that's the only place where my full "Fix Nightwing/The Outsiders" idea was written out, and I can't really torture Chap with it much anymore.

On the cover, but not consistently. They were also playing about with Jeckie's costume as well as Imra's. Those are also pretty far before Giffen arrived. 1980, the year we got Starfire...

True. This was when Jack C. Harris as editor. So it could have just been reflective of his personal views.

Or higher ups. There were tons of recolours like those covers, but many were just the covers.

Sometimes it may just have been the colourist doing it for their own reasons.

Getting back on track:

The DCnU Legion doesn't look like it will have the legs that some of the other New 52 relaunches seem to have. Relatively speaking, the series is about at the same level as it was before Flashpoint. It's one of the bottom-feeders of the middle of the pack boots. There have to be reasons why bringing "back" the neo-classic team has failed where other pre-Flashpoint relaunches (Flash, GL, JLA, etc) all to some point succeeded.

And then I read this, and wonder how much DC is really supportive of the Legion. :smt013
ACTION COMICS #6
Written by GRANT MORRISON
Backup story written by SHOLLY FISCH
Art by ANDY KUBERT and JESSE DELPERDANG
Backup story art by CHRISCROSS
Cover by ANDY KUBERT
Variant cover by RAGS MORALES
1:200 B&W Variant cover by ANDY KUBERT
On sale FEBRUARY 1 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T
Combo pack edition: $4.99 US
This issue will ship with three covers. See the order form for more information.
The breakneck pace of Grant Morrison’s run on ACTION COMICS continues as the Superman of the present day must team up with suspiciously different versions of the Legion of Super-Heroes to save the jeans-wearing Superman of five years ago! Whose hand is that on the cover? Why, the leader of the Anti-Superman Army, of course!
Plus, a backup by Sholly Fisch and ChrisCross that spins directly out of the lead story!
This issue is also offered as a special combo pack edition, polybagged with a redemption code for a digital download of the issue.

I guess that whole stuff about how Superman needed the "real" Legion in his childhood apparently went out the door when Johns decided he really didn't give enough of a $#!t to stay on Superman and/or Adventure and ran off to write The Flash. Leaving those Supes and the Legion lying on the floor like a spolied kid would leave broken toys he stoped caring for once he saw a shiny new one.

I wonder if DC would let Morrison do this if they actually cared more about the Legion.

Rich Johnson on Legion #3

It does surprise me that Legion: Secret Origin and the latest issue of Legion Lost can be so readable, in a way that’s never managed to brek through my Legion allergy in the past, but Legion Of Super Heroes #3, the lead book, is both impenetrable and boring. The one thing that lifts it for me is seeing how Francis Portella’s work seems to be influenced by the gay porn legend, Tom Of Sweden…

Yeah, I don't call that favorable at all. So much for the New 52 Legion being accessible to new readers. DC and Levitz just don't give much of $#!t to care about things like that apparently.

Or maybe it's because the time-stream is hosed-up due to Flashpoint and someone is fucking with Superman by making him think it's the real Legion.

From how Morrison has written things so far, it seems like Supes was never in the Legion. Which would certainly screw things up for Levitz & crew.
