Chasing The Matrix: Nightfly's Music Video Week in Review (week of 11/13/11)
Music video fans were gifted with another batch of noteworthy releases last week. This column's country offerings are light again as CMT - my primary source for new country releases - once more released just a couple new tracks. This WiR installment features videos from some big-name artists, links to articles & GetGlue stickers, and a couple Behind the Scenes Making Of clips just for fun. Crossfade's appearance in this week's entry makes that two in a row for the rockband, I wonder if they'll release another new video this week? The live videos spotlighted in this column are all out-of-competition, and though I didn't discover any new holiday videos last week, I included an item in that section anyway. This WiR is kind of unique in that it not only features a few make-up vids from the week before last, it also features a video from four months ago (before I started this music video column) and a clip that just got released yesterday (Sun 11/20). Yesterday's clip is an excerpt from CMT Crossroads' Thanksgiving episode starring Sting and Vince Gill. Make sure not to miss the live music and stories this Thursday (11/24) at 8/7c only on CMT. "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" (Live) by Sting w/ Vince Gill (from CMT Crossroads)
The first out-of-competition video from last week's new releases comes from CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Miranda Lambert, performing "Baggage Claim" live from the CMAAwards show on the eve of her birthday.
* read more about it here. ----------------------------------------- Trivia Question of the Week: Country superstar Blake Shelton didn't release a video last week (that I know of) yet it wouldn't feel right publishing this particular column without mentioning him. Two women showcased in videos this week are very important in Shelton's life. Name both songstresses to earn the first Music Video medal.
~ Previous week's answer(s): Rolling In The Deep & Turning Tables (Winner: none)
"What'cha Gonna Do" by The Oak Ridge Boys ----------------------------------------- Make-up Section: Three (3) videos, that I know of, escaped my attention the week before last and should've been featured in last week's column. Catch up on what was missed by clicking on the links to all three below.
* Talented teen actress Rachel G. Fox fronts the young rockband, Magnitude. Back in August they released an official video for their track titled, "Black Operation," and just last week they released the live drums [audio only] version on iTunes. Being that we're mutual twitter followers and I'm her GetGlue page's guru, it goes without saying I support Fox's musical ambitions and recommend you buy her band's single. Check out the video below and decide if you'd like to buy that tune for a dollar.
------------------------------------------------- New Holiday Video Release(s): Since I didn't find any new holiday themed videos last week, I decided to take this opportunity to suggest picking up the "Christmas" EP from talented duo Attwater. Readers of my TV column may remember I linked to their (CMT released) video, "Daydreaming," a few weeks back. The male half of the duo, guitarist/songwriter Jon Richards, is a mutual twitter follower and I'm also Attwater's GetGlue guru, so, I'm happy to recommend Christmas music fans pick up their latest release. You can purchase "Christmas" at their official site or buy it from iTunes here.
* Holiday music loving Glee fans, sad there won't be a new episode on this week, can score a GetGlue sticker for Glee's The Christmas Album, vol.2 by checking-in here. --------------------------------------------------- Bonus Videos: Two live Beyoncé excerpts were released as videos last week promoting her upcoming dvd, Live At Roseland: Elements of 4 (in stores 11/29). After checking out her videos (below), score this sticker by checking-in to Beyoncé's page here. "I Was Here" (Live at Roseland) by Beyoncé
Before closing out this Thanksgiving week edition, my fourth music video column so far, I wanted to include one more GG sticker I snagged in the past week and one I just unlocked yesterday. Early last week I grabbed glue from 30 Seconds to Mars and last nite I learned of new glue for Rihanna's Talk That Talk. If you know of any music videos from last week I might've missed here please let me know and also feel encouraged to share whatever new GG stickers you may learn of as you learn of 'em. Make sure to treat yourself to a Thanksgiving feast this week & (as always) Keep Your Groove On!
