Shading, Lighting and Rendering

I thought I'd share a quick render for you, beginning to end.

Here is an apartment setting as it loads direct from the vendor.

Here it is with the default textures wiped out an a shader applied called the UberShader. It allows you to select different settings for the diffuse texture, bump, displacement, ambient, specular, opacity, translucence, velvet, and sub-scattering.

Next is the UberLighting model. It's a hollow sphere with a universal light source that bounces light within, allowing shadows to form softly for general illumination.

to add more depth to the lighting, I added spot lights to the ceiling and table lights to show hoe the light should spill from the shades. I also added point lights where the bulbs would be and changed the settings of the shades for a translucent effect.

then I began reapplying the textures, working with the shader utility to add depth to the surfaces, making the windows clear, etc

I think the bookshelf and plant benefit the most from your touch up. Did you put the light sources "inside" the shades or is that a surface thing? Any plans to do reflections on the windows or picture frames?

there is a point light inside each light fixture, basically a ball of light with a limited range (to keep it inside the confines of the shade)

I didn't include any surface reflections on the glass.

further work:

I usually re-color and texture items to suit my own tastes. I changed the overhead light fixture and the lighting that goes with it, plus deleted some of the clutter. I changed the sofas to a soft, suede effect. I also added reflection maps to the glass and blinds to the window.
