Wow IGN gives The Muppets 4.5/5 stars...

The Muppets Review

Let me get a couple of things out of the way. For kids who may have never been exposed to the Muppets, this film should be highly entertaining – it's bright, colorful, filled with catchy songs and very funny. And for adults who were either too old or too young to have really been at the center of the Muppets biggest moment of fame (from the late-'70s to mid-'80s) or didn't get into the Muppets at another point, this movie is charming enough on its own to entertain. But the rest of this review is for those of you who, like me, grew up loving the Muppets, because man oh man, is this movie something special for us.

No More Muppet Movies?

I think the movie has only opened in the US and in Mexico. There's a ton of places around the world the movie has yet to open (though I have no idea how popular the characters are outside the US), so talking about world wide box office is kind of ridiculous at this point.

The movie has done about as well as Enchanted, it didn't have a huge budget, I'm sure it has led to increased merchandise sales, it's been really well received by fans and critics, it has a chance to win an Oscar for one of the songs, it's returned the Muppets to the minds of the general public as a movie franchise, the characters have been everywhere from wrestling to kid's shows to SNL, and I'm sure once it's on DVD it will do really well and further build the characters into favorites with the current youth.

I'm pretty sure everyone at Disney would call this a success. It's not Toy Story, but it's still accomplished all they could have realistically hoped for.

i don't think ANYONE was expecting it to do Pixar numbers.. it made its budget back, i'm sure disney is more concerned about DVD sales too

I'd like to see some Muppets shorts in front of movies the way they've done the Toy Story shorts. I think there's a Tangled thing at the start of Beauty and the Beast 3D, so clearly they are branching out a bit. A Muppet short on a movie like Brave or Wreck-It Ralph would be pretty cool.
