Breyfogle was the man.

Of the more modern artists, I'd say Capullo may have a shot if he sticks around. He draws a great Bats.

Aparo's the quintessential Batman artist for me.

Like Kevin Conroy is Batman's voice, Aparo's Bats is who I think of the most when he's brought up in conversation.

Same here. When I picture Batman in my mind the first image is always Aparo's blue and grey w/ the yellow circle around the bat symbol.

I also liked Scott MacDaniel but one that is not listed and always impressed me until later was Bernie Wrightson.
Also, Matt Wagnor.

That issue had an amazing looking Batman.

Considering there's a lot of proof that he barely did Batman art after the first few issues, I'd rather it be Jerry Robinson.

Not exactly. While he always had ghosts, he did art for the first 2 yrs or so

and then did almost exclusively for the comic strip, not book, for 3 or 4 yrs until that was cancelled.

when he came back to the book after that, he did some but not much.

I had never read a Marshall Rogers story before getting the collection for Christmas, but HOLY SHIT was it good. I'm more of a story guy than an art guy, but his art made the story. I haven't seen such expressive faces outside of Macguire's Justice League work (wasn't surprised to see Terry Austin as the inker on the Rogers work). Also, the little storytelling tricks he used (like writing "TIME LAPSE" in the gutter) were great. Finally, his Batman just looked amazing. I love how he always had Batman with his cape flying in the air. Badass! In addition, the story wasn't that bad either. Seeing Bruce Wayne actually fall in love opened up some storytelling possibilities.

I'm also partial to Jock's Batman from THE BLACK MIRROR and the last three issues of Greg Rucka's Batwoman. He has a gritty, simple, sad style that really matches Batman's world.

Yeah, Mazzuchelli's Batman is gorgeous. I would kill someone for original art from that man.
