I'm not a Bendis fan, but I'm definitely willing to give this a shot.

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

Maybe Bendis can do an all silent arc, no dialogue, just let Simonson draw what Bendis plots.

Trust me, his writing stint on Avengers sucked. He stayed on just long enough to destroy the team Stern had put together, only to leave it as soon as he put together a team that didn't even last four issues (Cap,Thor, Reed, Sue, and Gilgamesh).

Gilgamesh...*shudder*...that was a low point.

Um, yeah, he is.

I mean, love him or hate him, with work like Daredevil, Powers, Ultimate Spider-Man, anything he does with Maleev, and his half decade chartering the course of the Marvel universe... he's pretty much earned that title.

For mischaracterization, ignorance/defiance of continuity, for putting his story before the characters, overuse of ninjas, either deus ex machina or anti-climatic endings and generally a bad writing style that's more suited a street corner kosher deli than at a super-hero headquarters...

Um, no, he isn't. :groucho:

There's truth in thar.
Some artists need to keep their station and stop trying to be writers (cc: Phil Jimenez).

I'd give that reason to someone like Chuck Austen or even Judd Winick, but when it's someone like Bendis or Johns, they've worked with a length and breadth that establishes the new continuity.

Exactly!!!! Like Byrne's FF. Never cared for the man's writing (yes even WCA) but his FF has never ever been beat. Best run of that book ever. Same with Simonson.

While I agree with one or two things you've said, most of that doesn't ring true to me. Especially the ninjas thing. Really with the ninjas thing? What was that? Two story arcs over four years ago?

I was actually going down the rest of your list and counter-pointing them one by one when I realized there was little point to it. Most of it is just a value judgement and it can all be summed up with this: other "legends" have been accused of the same things. I remember John Byrne's Fantastic Four run being lambasted for most of these (not the ninjas or street corner deli bits but I'll bet Frank Miller got some complaints for the former and maybe the latter is something unique to Bendis) and some of that was justified. It doesn't make him less of a comic legend.

Again, love him or hate him, you can't deny his accomplishments.
