Fair enough, I've never read Books of Magic so I can't compare. It borrows tropes from so many different sources, but I've always felt that it still managed to have its own voice. Hopefully volume 2 will be more your thing.

just read unwritten 4, morning glories 1, and the nobody by jeff lemire, all from the library.

unwritten is good, but the stories with that damn evil rabbit are always the best part. morning glories did not inspire me to continue reading, but i might if the library system keeps getting them. the nobody was whatever.

These are all pretty much my opinions. I think maybe I liked The Nobody a bit more than you but not a whole lot.

Christmas Haul, not really got stuck into them yet.

The Red Wing

It would have been better if it were a 40 issue series rather than a 4 issue series, but as it's presented I liked it more than any of Hickman's Marvel work save for possibly S.H.I.E.L.D. Loved Pitarra's art, that guy is going to be freaking awesome.

Pitarra's art was really good. Don't remember seeing him in other titles.

He's doing something else with Hickman this year I think.

I'm not a fan of Hickman's work at all, but I'm curious about this

If you haven't liked Hickman's other stuff, I doubt this would change your opinion of him.

If you haven't read Nightly News or Pax Romana though, those are the works you should really be judging him on.

Read Red Mass of Mars and didn't like it.
But have read good things about Pax Romana. Maybe I should give that one a try.

Red Mass had a weird ending, made worse by the year or so between issues 3 and 4 but on the whole I enjoyed it. Pax Romana is probably the best balance of plot, style and ridiculous ideas that Hickman has managed in his Image work.

Agreed on Pitarra, and 40 issues.

I'm of mixed minds about this. I like everything Hickman has done. Even this. But I just felt like it was a summary of a much longer series. I didn't give a shit about any of the characters or the story, because it just felt like a quick cliffs notes-ish rundown of the story. 4 issues made for a massive rush job, IMO.
