In the first scene, the boy was reading an issue of Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine. At first, I figured that Lindelof was the writer of the episode or a producer and had a product placement, but I looked on imdb at the first commercial break and couldn't find him associated with the series. So then I just figured that, since UHVW took like 6 years to come out, it was a canny metatextual joke saying that UHVW was the comic equivalent of a fairy tale, thought to be mythological for so very long...but then it finally did turn up in the real world, like the fairy tale characters in Once Upon a Time.
