I'm getting paid

I've been commissioned to do covers for a guy who is self-e-publishing some books and short stories. He's given me a mock-up of what he's looking for and it's fairly straightforward - single character portrait shot for each cover. It's my first real pay gig for this kind of thing.
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

here's a first pass one that will not be used, I'll be changing the clothing and adding a sword and blue energy ball in the character's hands.
