And yes, if you call the police, and leave assuming something will get fixed and don't follow up on your report, then you have done something misguided. Is it anywhere near to what the offender has done? No. But just assuming that everything is right because you called the cops is a bit naive.
what if it burned out on its own?
did the cops come and say don't do it again?
If they do it again because the cops never came, is it my fault if the house burns down?
