bottom line, he did enough to legally cover his ass by kicking the whole thing upstairs and then stuck his head in the sand. while kids got raped. did he know that the whole thing would be swept under the rug to protect his rep and that of penn state football? who knows. someone with his experience and knowledge of the culture at penn state very well might have.
really, he is only one of many people who failed to do the moral thing in this situation. and i hope they all die painful deaths.

Ok. We got it.

Can I just ask if you hold everyone to such a standard or just because this guy made the news?
Because I see abuse at the hospital almost every day. We report it, but it would be basically impossible to keep up with the volume. Just wondering if the wish to experience multiple painful deaths might extend to me.

I don’t think he is even close to being a monster
He should have done more but he did take some action. Im not sure your expected to think everyone above you will screw things up.
It’s getting to the point like people think he is the molestor.

He did and was supposedly unhappy with Sandusky and took his keys to the campus away. What was said between them was not known.

No, but there are other threads to voice what you want to voice. Again, I don't know the purpose of the continued railing against him in this thread. Your opinion has been noted. No one posting in this thread is unaware of the circumstances.
I simply don't see the point.

If you are an incredibly influential and powerful person at your hospital and one of your employees tells you he saw an ex-employee (who still has access to the facility) raping a ten year old boy in the showers, and you tell your superior, and you let it drop there, even though you know the guy has access to plenty of underage kids, and you pointedly fail to do any kind of follow-up, even though you have every reason to believe those above you would squash the whole thing to protect you and a program worth millions and millions of dollars to the community...
yeah, i hope you die a painful death.

Unlike you I don't see the point in multiple threads on the same topic nor do i believe this guy to be worthy of some memorial thread so yes it annoys me when people say to leave him alone and that he was a good guy

Ok. Convenient standard though. I think it's great that you only hold the incredibly influential and powerful to such a standard. The plain truth is that many of us see signs of problems every day. Maybe it's a depressed individual, someone involved in drugs, a victim of abuse, a perpetrator of abuse and so on. And maybe we do a little (some of us do a lot) but most of us keep living our lives.
Anyway, as I've said, your opinion has been noted. May I suggest that if you feel that strongly that perhaps you start a thread to bring this issue to better light rather than to continue to post in a thread meant to show a little respect to the man.

There are already multiple threads on Paterno. The point of this thread was to show a little respect for his passing. So while you may not feel that one might need to, perhaps you may respect other posters who wanted to. No one is muzzling you nor telling you not to post your feelings. But continuing to do so in this thread reeks of doing so only because you know it's where your posts will get attention.

I could also write my opinions in a diary but I thought the purpose of a message board was to engage others in conversation/debate about any number of given topics?

I had no idea who he was until the Sandusky case was in the media, so I guess RIP for him and everyone else I don't know who has died.
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

You can only hold people to realistic standards of what they can be expected to do in any given situation. Nobody expects a hospital worker to follow-up with every person facing a problem they encounter in their work. But if you see clear evidence of sexual abuse and don't report it, then you are a piece of shit. In your situation, reporting it would be all you can reasonably expected to do because 1. You have no reason to think the authorities you are reporting it to have a vested interest in keeping said abuse quiet and 2. You don't exercise a huge amount of power in your facility as Paterno did at his.
Do you personally think Paterno did enough in this situation?

All the other threads were made before he died, you can't say you're glad he died until he actually dies, so I'd say everyone is perfectly within their rights to say what they will about his death.
