Under Milligan, Hellblazer is secretly one of the best books on the market, it's amazing, but nobody is really talking about it, but today, that all changes! We will not just talk about it, we will review it!

Deadfett has next week's pick

Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Your review must be at least a paragraph to show you've put some effort in, but beyond that, there's no right or wrong, unless you disagree with me :P

Eventually, I will put together all of our reviews and we will have our very own article on the front page of The Outhouse! If you would like for your review to be included, please try to have it posted by the end of day on Tuesday.

There isn't another one near enough. :smt102

The nearest place I could go is 45 minutes away at highway speeds. I like reading comics, but adding that much millage and gas used every week for one comic for this group isn't something I can justify doing.

When it comes to ordering in what I have on my pull list they're generally pretty good actually. I have no complaints that way. I live in a place with a population of 49,000 and the nearby town where my LCS is has a population of only 20,000. Given that, there isn't a huge customer base, so if not many people order something, they're not going to get many copies in.

20,000 people live in that town. It's not a huge place. There are a few exceptions, they usually have extra copies of American Vampire and IZombie as two examples, but they're still a small business in a small town. They're not going to be stocking everything -- even from Marvel and DC.

So the last time we read Hellblazer in the Review Group, it was some one off issue that I found cheesy. Prior to that, I had seen the movie. Other than that, no more experience with the book. So I didn't have high expectations for this issue. However, it surprised me. It was a good jumping on point which did a great job of introducing a few characters to a new reader like me, and demonstrating some things about John Constantine which I assume are core aspects of his character (he's bad luck to people who get involved with him, he has a hero's guilt complex, and he likes to mouth off to demons). I always appreciate when a writer makes an effort to make a book accessible in this way so that I don't spend the whole issue trying to figure everything out. The art was pretty good if not spectacular. I'll read the next issue, and might be interested in checking out some older ones.

Story: 8.5
Art: 7.5
Subtotal: 8
Accessibility: +2
Fart Demons: -1
Overall: 9
