TV Week in Review (week of 1/22/12)
Last week fewer new episodes aired compared to the week before but there were plenty enough to fill my usual lists. Again this week I'm glad to report that the majority of shows featured on my lists are available to screen free via hulu and/or their individual home sites. At different points in a given season, I notice the volume of free shows online varies and it appears the start of the new year has turned into a high point (enjoy it while it lasts). Drawing from my picks this time around NBC, FOX and TV Land are the big winners - with NBC earning a noteworthy five of my seven sitcom slots. Given the series in contention, it should surprise no one that the Cartoon Network and the Science Channel snagged the top spots in their respective sections. No network earned double placement on my Reality Shows list this entry. Some interesting stuff's happening next week but this week (starting 1/29) the only premiere I'm aware of is Nickelodeon's new series, How to Rock, debuting Saturday (2/4). Meet the star of HtR, Cymphonique Miller, in a fun 'n informative BTS video here. Now onto my favorite picks from primetime TV last week.... * Warning: videos below may contain spoilers and/or mature content not suitable for all ages *
1. Touch - "Pilot" (FOX) * Like Touch on Facebook. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Guest Star of the Week: Jodi Lyn O'Keefe on The Finder (FOX)
Runners Up: Richard McMillan on Lost Girl (Syfy) Jennifer Love Hewitt on Hot in Cleveland (TVLD) --------------------------------------------------------------------- * Favorite Teen Shows *
~Seal is currently offering a sticker at GetGlue promoting his new album, Soul 2. Grab it here. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Trivia Question of the Week: NBC's 30 Rock featured a trailer last week for the (fake) film, Martin Luther King Day. The trailer promoted a cameo appearance of which beloved Star Wars character in the (fictional) film? [answered]

Before moving onto this column's ample amount of movie news, I wanted to alert you to these TV related stickers I unlocked last week from GetGlue. First, on Tuesday (1/31) Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Next Level comes out on Blu-ray offering three episodes in high definition. Get a ST:TNG sticker for watching the disc's comparative trailer here. Regarding February, get glue for watching trailers for the following (in order of premiere dates): The River (2/7), The 54th Annual Grammy Awards (2/12), Eastbound & Down (2/19) and The 84th Annual Academy Awards (2/26). G4's Ninja Warrior (returning 3/4) is the only sticker I've unlocked pertaining to March. On the movie front, I found two Coming Soon stickers and one for the Blu-ray release of Drive (1/31). The CS glue found was for Chronicle (2/3) and Gone (2/24).
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance released a sensational Behind the Scenes featurette last week focusing on its direction and unconventional camera operating. Behold the spectacle (below) and read about it here.
Also on the subject of Marvel properties, sneak peeks at many upcoming The Avengers products appeared on the web last week, including first looks at its 3D motion poster, various toys, its line of colognes and more. Check out some The Avengers merchandise here (action figures), here (colognes) and here (quinjet and helicarrier).
If you haven't seen 'em yet, pics of detailed statuettes for Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight Rises came out last week. The statuettes reveal fascinating looks at the costumes of Batman, Catwoman and Bane. Take a closer look here.
With the 3D release of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace around the corner, different theater companies are offering promotional tie-ins to attract audiences to opening weekend. Read about the various toys and gifts for early ticket purchasers here and here; below are pics of two different ltd. edition 3D glasses (reportedly) available.
Of all new posters debuting last week - besides The Avengers 3D motion poster - the two below most interested me. Ridley Scott's Prometheus and James McTeigue's adaptation of The Raven. * Read more about the poster releases here and here.
Also making waves last week was the unveiling of a Full Capitol Couture viral site in support of The Hunger Games. Read about Capitol-born style icon and District 12 Escort, Effie Trinket, here. Thanks to MovieWeb for bringing this story (as well as most featured in this week's column) to my attention.
Thanks for joining me again for another Week in Review and, as always, I invite you to check out my music video column as well. I hope you found something worthwhile in this installment. Until next time, Have a Great Week & Happy Viewing!
I dont watch 30 rock but according to IMDB it says Liam Neeson was in the episode. So I'm guessing Liam Neeson's classic Qui-gon jinn.
Overall a great list. I dont like that SyFy is still on season one of Lost girl. That was a good episode though.
Touch was great, but I'm not sold on it yet. I want that social worker to die a brutal death.
So glad that Spartacus is back. Liam McIntyre is no Andy Whitfield but he's damn good.
Finder is amazing. It was the show that I didnt think would be very good but its a whole lot of fun. Just the way that he answers his phone cracks me up.
Hart of Dixie is always great. That show is far better then I thought it would be. Its fun and has, pardon the pun, heart.
I really wanna hate Are You There, Chelsea? but damn its funny. I cant stand Chelsea Handler but thats one funny show.

I can't believe you guys like that Chelsea show. I saw a commercial for it and she was terrible. And she was really irritating and unfunny on Conan. She's the worst!
I really liked Touch but Sutherland was Jack Bauer levels of intense at parts that were out of place. The thing with the terrorists was ridiculous but the reveal with the other guy missing his train was really cool.
The shoe salesman on The Finder was my guest star of the week.
That's Effie Trinket, the woman who is the District Host in charge of the lottery that brings Peeta and Katniss to the Capitol. She's a combo TV personality and game show host. The people of the Capitol live a life of wealth and decadence off the labors of the other districts.
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum. Written or Contributed by ThanosCopter

Wow that sounds awful! The only thing I'm less interested in is the Twilight films.

Oh Chelsea, to quote Ralph Garman, is a talentless cunt, but the show stars Laura Prepon (That 70's Show) and she's funny. Its kinda painful but its okay. I know I should hate it but I cant stop myself from laughing.

Thanks for the description.
About Touch, I wouldn't really lay the flaws of Heroes at Tim Kring's feet. I first became a fan of his writing/producing on Chicago Hope. He later impressed me by creating the shows Providence & Crossing Jordan. Given the credits I just named I remember being surprised by his involvement w/ Heroes; it didn't seem a subject-matter that lent itself to his skillset. [*shrugs*] Touch, however, looks to be right in the center of his wheelhouse. Plus, I'm a Kiefer fan, so it's nice seeing him back on the tube, especially sans torture.
On a different note, the answer to this week's trivia question is contained within the trailer I've embedded.

I think of it as 2 Broke Girls meets Cheers. I'll give anything a chance w/ either Prepon or Natasha Leggaro in it - and since Chelsea? has both, I'm totally onboard. I wish they woulda released the lactating scene as a clip, that was hella-funny. For what it's worth, Chelsea? has characters similar to people I know IRL.

I hate Chelsea but that show is funny, I just wish Chelsea herself wasnt on it. But we know her ego wont let her not be on it.

Oh well after watching it the Answer is R2D2. I dont watch 30 rock often, just the occasional re-run on comedy central. It should have been Darth Vader for obvious reasons.

Congrats on winning your 21st trivia medal!! R2-D2 is Correct!! Thanks for playing!
Today I published a couple interviews at TVOverMind about shows airing tonight (Friday 2/3). I made sure to reference Joss and the 'Buffyverse' in the Grimm one.

if this board can lay the blame at Ryan Reynolds feet for GL, I can lay the blame at Kring's for Heroes. If I'm not mistaken, he said something in an interview about finding the conceptual phase interesting and then losing interest in the plotting and realization for Heroes.
and Hunger Games looks awesome. The people of the Capitol are like a modern day hedonistic Rome.
