Reccomend Me Some Fantasy For My New Kindle!

Postby achilles » Mon Jan 30, 2012 9:40 am

I've mostly tried some free stuff from Project Gutenberg so far, Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and the like. I now want to try some stuff off Amazon itself.

What I'm looking for is some epic fantasy from entirely new authors, (that way I won't dupe anything I've already read), for cheap, (I'm thinking $.99 is my price point). Anything with dragons, martial arts, babes, that sort of thing. No sparkly vampires please.

If you've read it, fine, tell me why I should give it a try. If not, fine too, just list it if you think it meets my above criteria.

Thanks in advance guys!

Spirit Thief! It's more than a dollar but it's a really fun series..

Followed by Spirit Rebelion and Spirit Eater.

Have you (or anyone else) heard of and/or read anything by Guy Gavriel Kay? I had a friend who used to read his novels in high school.

This sounds like the kind of thing I like; with the only things being the price, (I'm a bit tapped right now), and the new author thing, (I want to support the guys who need it most). But the story itself sounds good to me.

They do sound interesting, and I may give them a try sometime, (I've marked them for that down the road), but they're really not epic fantasy, nor by a new author, and are a bit more than I wanted to pay.

What I'm looking for is are more traditional epic fantasies, (I could go with half a dozen or more), priced at $.99 for Kindle, and by a first-time author. I'm willing to take a chance on someone with no or only a few reviews at that price point, since I view it as giving me more entertainment time spent than a comic book regardless, (though I haven't stopped with those either).

This is separate from my forays into steampunk and sci-fi. Just good traditional epic fantasy with maybe a twist or so is all I'm looking for.

you might like Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince books
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

the Patrick Rothfuss series is pretty high fantasy, with a really well built world. But it's kind of slow.

Karen Miller's The innocent Mage and The awakened mage were pretty good too.
