Comics: Spoiled for Choice

Postby mrorangesoda » Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:16 pm

I feel like with the whole "Before Watchmen" thing, the board went through another round of "no good comics anymore" huff. Today I was looking over releases for the next months, and I feel spoiled for choice- I don't have the time, money, or space to get all the series I would like to- just current series mind you, add in collections of stuff I've missed or old stuff just now being released and the list becomes massive. It's a pretty good time to be a comic fan.

Anyone else feel this way?

Right now I'm overwhelmed by the stack of comics sitting by my desk to be read.

Of course getting about $35 of quarter bin comics from trading in comics doesn't help. :derp:

A lot of Peter David Aquaman in there.

I had to forswear Quarter bins unless they're something I'm specifically looking for. I'll end up with a run of something that's good for a single read, and fills up half a short box, that no one else will ever want to trade for...

That's the beauty of MyComicShop.com. While they typically offer a fraction of a comic's cover price, there are times I paid a fraction even smaller than that to get the comic in the first place.

HELLO, $0.26 PROFIT!

I'm with the "no good comics anymore" crowd, for the most part.

The only time you're "spoiled for choice" is when you're surrounded by back issue bins.

Right now, for the first time in a few years, there are more comics I want to read than I can afford to. This is mainly due to the New 52 and the forthcoming Vertigo babies but I can't say this is a bad thing. As someone with very little interest in superheroes DC have managed to put just the kind of talent I like on books to get me buying, while Marvel are sadly aiming for a very different type of reader to myself.

Not that I'm big-two exclusive, Image are currently on a creative high and Dark Horse have snapped up a very appealing team for Conan so really it's a great time to be a comics fan unless you're a Marvel completist.

Try Memorial, Cold War, Mouse Guard, Locke & Key, Green Wake, 27. There's choices out there.

Agreed, there's more good comics around at the moment than there has been for the last few years.

You should read non superhero stuff. There's a Universe full of awesome comics without capes.

But its your call after all.

I'm in the "I can't afford all the books I want" camp.

I do.
I also read every page of Previews every month.
That's why it all looks like a bleached desert out there.

Really, I'm still catching up on books from years back that I have yet to pick up. I'm working on getting caught up with Marvel cosmic, Queen & Country, DMZ, Brubaker's Catwoman, and Thunderbolts (from the beginning of Parker's run to present.)

That's not counting all of the titles I'm currently reading in trade, like Punishermax, Invincible Iron Man, Daredevil, Snyder's Batman, Azzarello's Wonder Woman, Scalped, Cooke's Parker books, Chew, Criminal/Incognito/Fatale...

What are these about??
(If it's horror, don't bother. Except for very few cases, horror's not my bag, man.)
