Scandal!  Tony Moore sues Robert Kirkman, Walking Dead co-creator and advocate of creator rights.

Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Tony Moore, original artist and co-creator of The Walking Dead, has sued writer Robert Kirkman, claiming that the Image co-owner cheated him out of his share of the earnings from the hit TV show.

According to the entertainment news site, the lawsuit claims that Kirkman lied to Moore in order to secure full rights to The Walking Dead.  Moore claims that Kirkman told him to sign over his share of the rights to The Walking Dead in 2005 in order to ensure that a lucrative motion picture contract would be signed by Hollywood producers.  Moore, thinking that the Hollywood deal was in jeopardy, signed over his rights to The Walking Dead along with Battle Pope and Brit.  Kirkman's lawyer claims that Moore is a liar and is owed no money at all.

This comes as a massive shock as Robert Kirkman has become the poster child for success in creator-owned comics.  Kirkman and his publishing company Image is the leader in creator-owned comics and Kirkman has repeatedly called on the industry to move away from corporate owned properties (such as superheroes owned by Marvel and DC) to work on creator-owned works to better secure rights for creators.

For those who undered how Walking Dead was going to end, this is it.

It will be interesting to hear Kirkman's side. It seems like he may have been doing all the work trying to get this book to the small screen though.

Does that mean Moore doesn't deserve to be compensated? Of course not.

But I'll wait to hear the whole story first.
