Just give him a great versatile artist and go, here you go, just make new stories. No limits to the boundaries you can do. Horror, comedy, love, doesn't matter.

Gaiman? Maybe he doesn't want one?

If he wanted a book, he'd be doing one at whatever company he wanted.

At the moment he's writing a book and finishing off the pilot of the American Gods show, plus occasionally gigging with Amanda Palmer. His dance card is pretty full...

I'm pretty sure Neil Gaiman could get literally any gig he wanted in comics at the drop of a hat.
If he wanted it.
No, I think he's pretty much done with comics in terms of ongoings.

I just hope he's careful and doesn't become another Frank Miller.

No, she sings and he reads from his books, plus sometimes plays the xylophone. This is only when they do their 'ninja' shows, not her regular tour.

Gaiman said once that the reason there hasn't been any new Sandman stories is because DC balked at paying the money he was asking (somewhere around a million, IIRC) to write one. He said doing a new series would take time away from his other projects (books, film), and he that Sandman took more time to work on.

No assumption, but you'd think that all of Neil's comic fans would flock to the stores for new Neil comics

He's under no obligation to give them new comics. He clearly has no interest in it, otherwise, he would do so. I'm sure both DC and Marvel would love to have him, if just for the name value alone.
