Comics You Should Be Reading: Batman and Robin

Postby LOLtron » Mon Feb 20, 2012 11:16 am

If you're looking for a Batman book to complement Scott Snyder's book, Batman and Robin is a Comic You Should Be Reading!

Comics You Should Be Reading features a rotating panel of Outhouse writers highlighting some of the best, under-heralded books out today.

Batman and Robin
Written by: Peter Tomasi

Batman and Robin

When I was informed that I was on deck for this article my first thought was to go with Scott Snyder's Batman – a no brainer really. The more I thought about it though, the more I realized that Peter Tomasi's work on Batman and Robin is very much on par with Snyder's work on the other book.

Batman and Robin

Peter is the first writer to have the chance to develop the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his estranged son (and the most recent Robin), Damien Wayne. By the time Damien had finally come into the care of his father, Bruce had an unfortunate run in with Darksied that sent him hurtling through time. Since everyone believed Bruce to be dead, it was Dick Grayson who took his youngest brother under his wing to train him.

With the Nu52 and the return of Bruce as the Dark Knight, the stage has finally been set for a little father/son time. Peter Tomasi has been more than up to the challenge; taking off right out of the gate with a story that goes right to the core of their relationship. Can Bruce trust his flesh and blood as much as he does his adopted sons? Will Damien's training from The League of Shadows be the ultimate road block, stopping the young man from becoming the hero his father believes he can be?

Batman and Robin

Strong story, art that supports the story completely and some of the best characterization in any Bat-book on the market makes this a must read. This also has the possibility to be Damien Wayne's definitive run.

Batman and Robin

The run has only six issues in the bag so there's still time to get on board from the beginning. Even if you're not the biggest Batman fan, this is just unique enough to garner a look see.

Almost as good as Snyder's Batman.

fun new villain, fun storyline, great art, and IMO the best characterization of any of the Bat-books. definitely a winner!

I wish it was still Dick and Damian, though.

It's still good, but the interactions between them was way better than Bruce/Damian.

I've only read two issues (#4 & 5) and really enjoyed it so far. I don't like Damien but damn if he's not making me change my mind. :x :P

I villain is cool and I like his motivation but someone already knowing Batman's secret identity is kind of meh.

And the art is great, I really dig Gleason.
