One of the great achievements in cinema. I remember when Olderama had a big poll for best movies, and 2001 finished in the 90s behind garbage like Scream 2 and 300. When I expressed my shock, the response was that 2001 was "too intellectual" for most people and many "didn't get it." :smt011 Any wonder why I've mostly lost faith in humanity?

Fantastic film. I went out of my way to see this piece in a special screening at a theatre a year or two ago.

You shouldn't have been surprise by the response it got. IIRC wasn't it an epic failure back when it was originally released for the same reasons?

I hated it. Boring ass movie.

Kubrick was overrated.

Target has had the Blu Ray for $15, I'm thinking of upgrading from my DVDs for a couple movies like this, The Shining, and Alien.

2001: A Space Odyssey was one of the biggest box office hits of the 1960s.

Roger Ebert has bragged about being on the "right side" of critical opinion when the movie opened. So at least a few critics must have disliked the movie when it was released. What percentage, I have no idea.

Budget: $10,500,000 (estimated)
Gross: $190,700,000 (Worldwide)

Even Twigglet couldn't spin that into a flop.

IIRC it made most of it's money after it's initial release
