Avengers has been pretty terrible, to be honest. Some cool moments here and there, but as a whole? Not to my liking..
What's so odd about the Avengers run is that if it were done in a different way, it would have been awesome. For example, I've always enjoyed the idea of Storm joining the Avengers, as a way to promote mutant rights in mainstream 616, but it's looking like she is going to be a very missed opportunity. I like that so many 'forgotten' heroes (Spider-Woman, Luke Cage) and unlikely heroes (Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil) have joined the Avengers, but it's all for naught. The Avengers have no character development to really speak of. Eh.
I think X-men had more going for it in the past decade than the Avengers. I liked the move to San Francisco, and fortified their mutant stance on things. I kinda dug Fraction's run.
X-Factor has been great. I even like the New Mutants. X-Force (both Yost/Kyle and the current book) are phenomenal. At least X-men has other books that are solid. The Avengers, with the exception of Avengers Academy and the Avengers Crusade, just don't benefit from that.
And for the record, Geoff John's Teen Titans was a very fun read. I loved his Titans Tomorrow storyline.
Do you know what the most frightening thing in the world is?

It's fear.
