During an episode of Pokemon Smash, Game Freak's Junichi Masuda announced two new entries in the Pokemon franchise.

The games will be for the Nintendo DS and will be out availabe in Japan in June. No word yet on when the games will hit US shores. The names of the creatures in the image below will be revealed on the next episode of Pokemon Smash in Japan.

I bought Pokemon Black for my DS, but haven't had the time to play it yet. That's pretty much the story of my life.

Would prefer the 3DS as well, but what I'd really prefer is something other than the same basic story we've had since this series started. Do we really need the same plot for a 19th and a 20th time?

That's been their MO for the last several years: revise, revise, revise. Since the move to 3D perspectives with the Nintendo 64, the company has been extremely reluctant to reinvent their core franchises.

The big appeal of Pokemon Snap for me was the fact that I could print off my pictures as stickers. I think I still have some.

Pokemon Snap was pretty lame yeah, but I really like most of the main Pokemon games, they are standard RPGs yes, but the design of the monsters is cool, the tactics of batting and building a 6-Pokemon party are clever and the puzzles are often genuinely puzzling. Plus they are addictive, you really do want to catch them all.

Plus there's the social aspect of trading and battling with friends (or these days, over the internet).

Yeah I didn't get into that aspect, of course, and RPGs aren't really my favorite type of games anyway.

Now you just go to them for going out of business sales.

Mine is down to less than $5 for Blu Rays and TV Season Sets in perfect shape heading into the final weeks.
