Who's asking you guys to post less?
My perception of all these cries of "mawd abuse" recently is that it stems from certain members of the staff essentially stirring up drama and then mods like Simian, Nieto or Blue Streak coming in and trying to diffuse the situation. Which further annoys people because they feel like they are being chastised for taking the bait of an official representative of the site while that person gets off scott free.
Again this is perceptions, someone who has been paying attention will recall Nieto saying that he's spoken to "so and so on the staff" about this and I assume that in the situation that happened today a couple of pm's were exchanged too. It's a common procedure in situations with tiered authority That the top dog will chastise the second in command in private as to not diminish their authority. I can't fault them on this, as it would surely cause these fine people who have volunteered for the gig to reconsider their position with the site and their affiliation in general. It's the least they can do in such a situation.
But we have to consider why the authority and rules were established in the first place, which is utlimately to keep the peace. If a mod is operating counterintuitive to that, then obviously there are issues there. And I think that is where the frustration of the many (Bender and his many voices in his head) stems from. And I would agree that using a reported offense as an opportunity to mock a poster is probably out of line as well. But what's done is done, and people have already said their piece about that.
But in the context of keeping peace there is no reason that Bluestreak can't share his lame opinions about Wolverine's offspring butchering ways

, Nieto can't share his love of silly hates, or Mr. Black can't talk about how he lost to a young upstart lawyer in a case to keep a little old woman's home from being forclosed upon

. People like those interactions and only an idiot would be offended by that stuff. But instead just refrain from personal insults, which you guys do anyways, because it's the rules.
So in a nutshell, you're not compromising your capacity as moderators by interacting in the forums.
