Actually the Producer is one of the main creative forces behind a film. In fact a lot of the time they are the people that have the idea and put up the money for it. You're talking about an EXECUTIVE producer, they have little creative input.

If you really believe that a very successful director just produced this flick with a first time director you're nuts. Not to mention that a producer is on set EVERY day making sure that everything is right from creative aspects to making casting decisions.
