Full Summer Of Valiant Titles Released!

Postby achilles » Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:42 pm

All four Summer of Valiant titles have now been made public, along with the creative teams; and to my surprise, and I imagine that of many, the fourth title is Archer and Armstrong, not Shadowman or Eternal Warrior.

VALIANT Launches Four New Series for Summer 2012

Valiant is proud to announce four new series for the summer of 2012 -- X-O Manowar, Harbinger, Bloodshot, and Archer & Armstrong -- featuring brand new beginnings for some of comics' most iconic characters! Kicking off with X-O Manowar in May and Harbinger in June, the Summer of Valiant continues this July in Bloodshot #1, from acclaimed writer Duane Swierczynski (Immortal Iron Fist, Birds of Prey) and artists Manuel Garcia (Checkmate, Spider Man: Breakout) & Arturo Lozzi (Immortal Weapons)! Then, in August, the Valiant Universe's greatest duo begins an all-new epic journey in Archer & Armstrong #1 by the New York Times bestselling creative team of Fred Van Lente (Amazing Spider-Man, Hulk: Season One) and Clayton Henry (Avengers Academy)! Four months. Four titles. Infinite possibilities. The Summer of Valiant is coming!

Solicits for the number one issues here at Rama. For the most part, they sound similar to the old books, with Bloodshot having the greatest possible variation from its predecessor, (though that may just be the solicit, which really doesn't say much except that Bloodshot has just been captured).

Eh. I just spent a ton of money filling in the holes in my long box full of classic Valiant titles. I'll read those instead.

Some really good writer/artist teams on there.

Depends on how long these teams are supposed to stick around. The last Valiant relaunch had the teams stay for 3 issues in some cases and degrade to complete ass almost instantaneously.

These aren't related to the new(ish) Magnus and Solar stuff that was getting published, are they?

I doubt it. I believe this is a complete reboot.

And I don't know that they have the rights to those characters anymore.

They don't. Random House does, and Turok as well, and licensed them to Dark Horse, which was that recent release referred to. DH canceled those books, and will release trades of what they did, IIRC, meaning Magnus and Solar are back to limbo again, and Turok never left it.

I heard $3.99 BTW for XO I think, but no word on the length of the books.

Too bad, but eh.

I never really like Magnus. Turok was cool at times. Solar was a cool character, but never really meant to be an ongoing. I'd really love to see more new characters rather than simply retread the whole universe anyway.

yes! thanks! I own/read the first three issues of Magus. I thought it was pretty good, but I was late to the party, and didn't feel like trying to catch up on the issues I missed. I wasn't sure if the books had been cancelled or not.

I'll give these books a shot, but I have doubts that they will ever be completed and/or be any good. I don't think you can catch lightning in a bottle twice like Valiant was able to do originally.

Magnus was the best of the Gold Key characters in the Valiantverse.

Turok felt almost like a rehash of X-O unfortunately. He had a unique environment in the Lost Land and became superfluous in the proper universe.

Solar had some good stories but I think the best arc was Jurgens' run on the book.

I am not really interested in the Valiant characters. They just never really stuck with me.

However I am a bit curious. I like VanLente and Henry... and also Evans...
