do you think there was no intended implication of a connection to the US flag?

The fact that you don't understand that proves that you'll never get it.

Oh, I get their point. And if it were an American flag that had been printed on or had an image of Obama stitched into the field of stars, they would be correct.

However it is not and they are simply, like yourself, a bunch of aggrieved old white dudes who can't stand the fact there is a black man in the White House.

What does that even mean?

That it was supposed to be similar to an American flag?

Sure.

What does that have to do with anything?

It's kind of the point. They didn't just do a solid blue flag and put his face on it. They made it intentionally to evoke the US flag with Obama in place of the stars.

I'm not upset about it, but I think it's inappropriate. The US flag, as a flag, shouldn't be messed with like that, and I'm a registered Democrat who voted for Obama and will again this fall.

I also don't think this flag is appropriate:

Actually I started the thread, and I named the thread title that because Obama is the person whose image is upon flag.

And if you can't fathom why people, especially veterans, would be upset about this then I don't know what to tell you. The flag means something, it represents something. Maybe that varies from person to person, but I doubt many veterans like to think that they served for any man or any government, but an ideal that flag represents to them.

From the way you're carrying on I imagine you'd use the funeral flags for serviceman for toilet paper, cause it's just cloth.

Yeah, I was wrong about who started the thread. My bad. Still...

Sure, they can get pissed off all they want. And I don't blame them for being pissed. I'd probably be irked too, if I was in their shoes. Just like people can get pissed off at the huge Confederate Flag I saw flying while I was driving through Florida. Or the neo-nazi groups who wave Nazi flags as they march through town. Or Christian groups who have 50 crosses instead of stars on an American flag. But at the end of the day, it's a piece of cloth, not some holy relic with magical powers. I mean, they make American flag speedos for petes sake. Where's the outrage? WHERE IS FOX NEWS TO CONFRONT SUCH AN ATROCITY????

And if you own the flag, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. It's your personal property (I would not wipe my ass with a funeral flag since its not my personal property). As long as you're not harming somebody with it, I think it's a huge infringement of the government on a person's personal liberties to fine or arrest anybody for it. I find it particularly amusing that certain people here who so vigilantly uphold Conservative or Libertarian "values" think otherwise.

Furthermore, I would not wipe my ass with an American flag because I do respect it as symbol (I'm a little offended you would suggest such a thing). I do not believe in enforcing that view on other people, however.

When you set physical symbols over the freedoms they represent, you're doing more disservice to them than anyone using them in a way you don't like.

I consider those little disposable flags (and people who fly weather-beaten flags) as about as disrespectful to the flag as you can get, because people are being flagrantly ignorant about the care of an object that they're professing so much respect for, but I also have zero enmity towards them.

Keep grasping at them straws. The fact that I speculated on their reasoning for finding the flag offensive doesn't change the fact that they have no solid basis for finding the flag offensive.

How many of these things do you see scattered on the ground after a parade, sporting event or rally?
