the word "alien" and "mutant" are pretty interchangeable in this instance, especially when you can change that and still maintain 90 percent of their actual origin.

mutant = freaks of nature that are alone in the universe
alien = just several of a race of people with a homeland

BIG DIFFERENCE

They were baby turtles that were mutated by a means they didn't understand. That was a big deal for them in the comic and the movies. Then there's that whole connection to Japan. Splinter is their link and if they are aliens why do they use ninja weapons and techniques?

If it's Baytles, then he should change the name of the movie: Teenage Alien Invading Ninja Turtles.

Then the acronym would be fitting.

I'm not gonna read the entire thread before i post this so if wheat i'm saying has already been said i apologize.

I'm too young to have grown up with Transformers during the 80s, so i really didn't care that Bay ruined them. But the Turtles i grew up with. They were the first real show i watched religiously and first toys i collected (i had every figure besides the last wave). So him destroying the turtles pisses me off

Maybe they were orphaned as baby alien turtle dudes and they were found and trained by Splinter, who is a Vietnam vet who served as a Tunnel Rat in the war, before becoming a ninja master.

Groan! Please tell me this is a joke, right? They tried the alien angle with Shredder in the TMNT 2002 cartoons by making him an Utrom and we all know how badly that turned out. If it ain't broken, don't fix it so leave the Turtles as earth mutants in a sewers.

Strict31 wrote:Is Bay just trollin' fanboys or something? I mean, why would you change the turtles to be alien turtles? Did he think that the "mutant" part of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was just too much for audiences to believe? Like, the "Ninja" and the "Turtle" parts we'll keep but that "Mutant" nonsense is just too much of a stretch.

Or maybe if they're from an alien race that came to Earth, it gives him all the excuse he needs to mobilize the military in the movie.

Does anyone theorize that Bay is somehow related to Bendis and Didio?

Eh, if you want to nitpick it, go ahead.

April wasn't suddenly a ninja, she had obviously been training.

And it was the idea that the Turtles had moved on and grown that made the movie good. The fact that they had to come back together and find what made them a team in the first place. Was it perfect? Not by any means. But it was something more than yet another origin tale, which I respect it for. And the turtles felt more badass and less about comedy, but without taking that away.

That's why it's superior.

The 07 movie wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as the first two unfortunately as the main reason was the Shredder wasn't in it and the villains they had were lame and one-dimensional. If they had least brought the Shredder back as the main antagonist then it would have been better from where I stand.

Again, I could handle it from a more credible creator. As it stands, I agree that this will be Bay's attempt to add military porn to the concept.

Agreed. I can see him turning April O Neal into some sexbot with a lot of camera shots of her rear end to stimulate the fanboys.
