I was going to pick up a bunch of Marvel collections and I was trying to decide if I should go with the paperbacks because they are cheaper or the hardcovers. Is the cover the only difference, or are the pages larger or better quality. What do you guys recommend?

I prefer paperback for most things, but if its something I really loved that I anticipate reading numerous times or lending to friends, I go with the hardcover for durability.

The binding on some of Marvel's paperbacks from around 2002-2003 is unstable and falls apart easily, but otherwise I would just stick to the paperbacks. You'll save a ton of money in the long run.

I tend to get hardcovers.
Because they're easier to get sketches in.

I prefer paperbacks to hardcovers in both comics and regular books.

Hmm...I would have expected more hardcovers. So there is no difference in quality for the pages?

Not really. They might be a hair thicker, but it's not a huge difference. It's still better to go for the cheaper alternative because the quality is fairly close.

Marvel and DC's hardcovers are, for the most part, an insult to readers. Aweful bindings, little to none extras, shitty ass paper.
DC's omnibuses are the worst of the worst. The Archive editions weren't all bad, but thats it.

Hardcovers for me. I hardly ever buy TPBs anymore from Marvel, if there's an HC available.
1. They look better on the shelf.
2. They're more durable, and last longer.
3. Marvel's TPBs have been declining in quality for a couple years now.. I dunno what it is.

People like to show off their shelves. They think other people care.

I only buy hardcovers for really large collections. If it's just 6 issues of something, it's not worth the price IMO. Most of Marvel's paper stock is basically the same between the two releases.
