My only hope and interest in this movie is that it helps kick open the door to allow more females to become fans of sci-fi. To help make sci-fi and fantasy more and more mainstreamed.
I love the fact that ordinary soccer moms are stoked for this flick. Even though I am uninterested in seeing it, anything that makes less room for rom-com choices on movie night is okay by me.

My best friend finished the series a month or so ago (his wife was all into it and shit). He didn't care for it much, but said the movie casting is pretty much spot-on.

So far it has been good and really moves. You can tell it is young adult for the lack of over exposition.

We have IMAX tickets for a Saturday afternoon matinee. Going with my wife and father-in-law. They've both read the series and I know they are excited for it. It's been so long since I've been to the movies, I'm just pumped for that.

it's a book (the book's very good) a comic based off that book (never read that) and a movie (which is awesome)
the story is about a dystopian Japanese government that in a effort to stem rampant juvenile delinquency they enact the "Battle Royale act" which means that one class of Japanese high school students are picked at random put on a island (given random weapons) and are forced to kill each other. The movie hasn't ever been released legally in the states (though I don't know a single friend of mine who doesn't have a copy haha) I think it's finally getting a blu-ray release later this month. The movie is really excellent take one part lord of the flies with equal parts high school interpersonal drama and add a bit of hyper violence makes for a interesting film I just went on youtube I guess you can watch the whole film there for 4 bucks here's the trailer
