Plus if it wasn't for the Utrom Shredder we would never have had him decapitated on a Sat. morning cartoon show.
I liked the decapitation part myself however that's nothing compared to the Utrom Shredder meeting his end at the hands of Bebop and Rocksteady in the movie as that was funny as hell-nothing in TMNT can top that one.
I still prefer the Demon Shredder, however, as he was the most powerful out of all the incarnations and I loved how he could turn into a giant dragon.

Tengu Shredder was too rushed alas for me. I mean yeah he had a great design but there wasn't much to his character other than being a demonic Shredder.

I agree with you there as I suspect he was created to appease the fans who hated the Utrom Shredder and wanted the Shredder to be human.
If I had written the show I would have kept the Tengu Shredder as the original one and made the current Shredder human and reveal that the mantle was passed down from generation to generation. I would also have Ch'Rell be the one who helped to finance and train the Demon Shredder's family who would enter into alliance with the alien to gain revenge on the Ninja Tribunal and the other Utroms. To me this would have made better sense than the mess they created on the show.

Michael Bay to TMNT Fans: Chill! In a posting at his Shoot For The Edit blog forum, Bay said, "Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."

One of the many things I'd do if I were running Hollywood- every producer and director in charge of a major release based on a nerdy property would be required to spend their lunch breaks for a couple weeks looking through and posting on an internet message board/article comment section. That way if an announcement went bad with the fans we want enthusiastically promoting our movie for free, they wouldn't think that going online and telling everyone to "chill" was how the internet operates.

It would also cause a lot of producers and directors to lose their will to live.

Oh yeah. The way he kept coming back and being utterly relentless was crazy when i was watching it. I was like "finally a Shredder that is badass and not a pushover" and "how the hell did he survive that". I did feel like I got kicked in the nuts when they revealed he was an Utron but they recovered very well from that after his return and story ended. Brilliant character despite that flaw.
"You didn't kill me, you only separated my head from my body" must be one of the best lines from that series. Such a powerful moment.
Tengu Shredder was an overpowered annoying douche who only needed a mustache to twirl.

Can't find the 2003 series on DVD or netflix
I can find the NExt mutation on netflix though
I think the 2003 series became unwatchable when it went to "flash forward", but I really enjoyed a lot of the earlier stuff.

That's due to Nick buyout I'd imagine. Full collections of Seasons 2 and the Lost Season are next to impossible to find on DVD. However the full Season 1 and a good chunk of 4 however are available.

Yeah I agree. There wasn't much to him save that one moment when he was um.. ripping the armor off Karai. Nice design though.

Well, I didn't give Bay any money on the Transformers franchise, and I don't foresee giving him any money on this. Thanks, Michael Bay!

Agreed for the most part. To me, the fact that the 2002 Shredder was definatley a step up from the 80's toon Shredder was a major improvement-despite the fact that I didn't like the Utrom connection. As I said before, as much as I liked the Demon Shredder, he was primarily created to appease the fans who wanted Shredder to be human and didn't really know what to do with him afterwards. Interestingly, I heard that they were going to do a story arc where all the male Shredders would be a war for control of the Foot but they scrapped it.
