Avatar Press Inventory Stolen after Wondercon

Postby LOLtron » Thu Mar 22, 2012 12:21 pm

Avatar Press Inventory Stolen after WonderconThe company's convention trailer was stolen on Tuesday, costing the indie comics company a significant portion of their inventory.

Bleeding Cool, owned by Avatar, confirmed this rumor today with the following post:
Avatar Press has suffered a very difficult blow, on Tuesday, March 20th our 5×8 white trailer containing all our convention set-up and inventory returning from Wondercon and heading to Emerald City was stolen from the parking lot of our good friends at Corner Store Comics in Anaheim, CA.  In addition to convention display items like wire racks, large back-drop display and signage, loads of books are now gone.  Full cases of most of our most popular graphic novels like Neonomicon, Crossed, Freakangels, Night of the Living Dead, and Fevre Dream are gone.  Large quantities of World War Z, Zombie Survival Guide and books by author Max Brooks were in that trailer.  Some limited editions, created for the conventions, of Ferals #1, Crossed: Badlands #1 and Lady Death #14 and #15 are now much more limited as huge chunks of the entire production run are gone.

Some sources are telling me that the theft is particularly distressing because the stolen materials could include secret plans for a line-wide Avatar reboot, as well as a vintage pair of Rich Johnston's underpants. Treat this as rumor for now.

The company is asking for any retailers approached with large quantities of Avatar books for sale to contact them at info@avatarpress.com, stating that Diamond is their only distributor and anyone with large quantities is likely the thief, and should be destroyed. If you hear anything, please contact them.

How the hell did they manage to get their entire trailer stolen and nobody see?

I assume they'll be watching the eBays closely though.

Industry insiders indicate that the theft might be related to a soon-to-be announced Marvel event. According to my sources, Marvel has decided to take pre-emptive actions to prevent Bleeding Cool from running its mouth and has threatened to send the trailer back in small pieces should the popular blog leak the news. Bleeding Cool, of course, declined to comment.

I think it's Garth Ennis and John McCrea. They're Dicks.

I feel like this is just a promotion for Supercrooks or something.

I hope this doesn't affect Avatar's publishing schedule.

Probably will. I'm sure there's some reshuffling going on behind the scenes.

As long as it means more Warren Ellis books, I'm a happy camper.
