I just hope the blacks don't riot when this guy goes free (the law is on his side--as screwed up as that is) and more innocent (esp. white) people aren't killed.

how is the law on his side?? he wasn't in any danger of being killed by the kid. Witnesses heard the kid calling for help.. yet the shooter is "innocent?" really???

yeah, that doesn't make any sense. I understand the law, but how can it apply to a kid that was walking through a neighborhood HE LIVES IN, and then running away when a crazy person with a gun starts chasing him? How can anybody believe that the guy was defending his life or personal property?

if somebody called the cops I me for walking through my neighborhood and looking at the houses or whatever this imbecile said the kid was doing, I would be royally pissed off.

I hear you. Now let me present the other side of the story as it applies to my neighborhood.

When someone is wandering through "looking at stuff," it could be completely innocent. Or it could be not so innocent. People have had cars, trucks, motorcycles, quads, bicycles, tools, building supplies, and even livestock stolen from their property after it was "cased" by random teenagers.

Again, this does not excuse Mr. Block Watch shooting some kid. But in my neighborhood, we notify the community watch folks, who notify the police, when anyone of any color comes through eye-fucking our "stuff."

He released this statement:

As a former homicide investigator, a career law enforcement officer and a father, I am keenly aware of the emotions associated with this tragic death of a child. I'm also aware that my role as the leader of this agency has become a distraction to this investigation. While I stand by the Sanford Police Department, its personnel and the investigation that was conducted in regards to the Trayvon Martin case, it is apparent that my involvement in this matter is overshadowing the process. Therefore i have come to the decision that I must temporarily remove myself from the position of police chief of the city of Sanford.

I do this in the hopes of restoring some semblance of calm to the city, which has been in turmoil for several weeks. As the chief of police of the city of Sanford, I have made sure that the facts of this case have been presented to the office of the state attorney. It is my hope the investigation process will move forward swiftly and appropriately through the justice system and that a final determination in this case is reached.
