The PC and XBox are very similar, other than on the XBox if you attack a ship and are outnumbered, it shows an animation where you copy an on screen button sequence and it knocks off your enemy's soldier totals.

Yeah the Wii version sucks. I bought it, played it once, and it's been on the shelf ever since. The iPad version is just like the Wii, but attacking ports (it's a side scrolling cannon attack vs the ground chess game on the PC and XBox) is a little easier using finger taps vs the wii wand.

It did come out on the PSP, but I wasn't going to buy a handheld just to play it. I heard it wasn't as good as it was missing some features.

The British have Ships of the Line. They are rare, but they are the best in the game.

How does one deteremine a "best" ship? Other then the tonnage and any mods you add like grape shot, etc there doesn't appear to be a lot of stats differentiating the ships.

It's been a few years, but I think the big factors are speed, amount of cannons, size of cargo.

Crew size too, which can be important when attacking ports.

I'll have to go look again because I was never able to find any place that displays the number of cannons on a ship except when you're in combat.

Also it seems to sort of serve as your health bar. Each hit of cannon fires seems to reduce your number of crew.

I'd like to see more classics given a fresh coat of paint.

I bought the original for Nintendo. My old original Nintendo still works and I still play the occasional game to this day.

There's no way in hell I'd ever be able to bring myself to play the original 1932 version. :smt011

then enjoy your pansy-ass easy Pirates game :smt013

(true story, I haven't touched that new Pirates game, because the main character looks too un-piratey to me)

He reminds me of Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island. The game has quite a mod community and several forums discuss how to replace the main character image with one of the other cooler looking pirates like Roc Brasiliano or Jack Rackham for example
