I was at work today talking about how I like to work out at lunch. My employer gets big discounts for memberships at a couple of workout facilities close by, one is the YMCA and the other is at a hotel. The woman sitting across from me says she won't go to the YMCA because there are too many faggots. This is a big company with 1000s of employees, corporate atmosphere and she should know that you cannot speak that way at work.

This woman is married with three kids, and her husband is a computer programmer that has been unemployed for about 18 months after getting laid off. My Dad is in the same position so I know how tough it is to get a computer programming job right now.

Do I report the woman for using that language knowing that she will get fired, or let it slide because I know the woman being unemployed would hurt her kids just as much as her and they had nothing to do with it?

Eh. Some people are ignorant, why should it bother you? Do you think this woman is going to go out and hurt gay people because of her beliefs? at my job a few weeks ago some chick started telling me she was racist and going off about blacks, asians, etc etc. i told her she really shouldnt say shit like that because most people would get her fired. she seemed honestly perplexed by this.

Ignore it the first time, but if it comes up again then take it up with HR. Do not say anything to her, do not engage in a conversation of any type since it can come back against you. More likely HR will either do nothing but track the incident or maybe give her a verbal warning.

Suggest that she do what I do: Take all her aggressive / hateful feelings toward various groups, and focus them on the group that is most deserving of scorn - The French!

Leave it alone, it wasn't directed at you and she wasn't conducting company business, which in either case I would say report it. Otherwise she's entitled to her opinion, regardless of whether you agree with it. People like this usually slip up on their own, But if you were to speak up now you'll be labeled as a whiny squealer.

Let it slide.. Some people are just fucking ignorant and unless she's a subordinate it's not your job to police her. So unless it offends you personally forget about it.
