Sin City. This movie still holds up in bad-assery. I usually watch the full versions of the stories, when they're not pieced together. It's been maybe a year or 2 since I watched this film period, this time I watched the theatrical version. The style just works perfectly and Rodriguez does a wonderful job with the casting. It was this film that made me such a Rosario Dawson fan. Man, she still turns me on as Gail. Can't wait for the sequel. There's also a lot of beautiful, well done shots. One of my favorite shots in the whole film is when Hartigan realizes he was duped into tracking Nancy, and he turns around to see who's been following him and in the background we see Nancy dancing. The shot goes from slightly colored to full black and white and goes into slow motion. Just a completely well shot scene and Nancy's movement in the background really adds to it.

The Dwight storyline is still my favorite and my favorite scene still gets me excited to watch. The scene that Quentin Tarantino directed, Jackie Boy and Dwight's car ride. And speaking of Jackie, he's still my absolute favorite character. Del Toro was on point in this film and his performance and casting as Jackie Boy continues to keep me entertained.

Puss in Boots was cute, it was lacking Shrek level fun but there was some good moments.

I love Stardust. I never get tired of rewatching it.

Princess and the Frog.

Love this movie. Great voice acting, especially the voice of Lottie, Tian's spoiled best friend. And the music is great. Love the Vodou aspects of it and Keith David is great as the villain, Dr. Facilier, the Shadow Man. His villain song is one of my favorites.

A good old fashioned adventure, not just because the story is a hundred years old, but in the filmmaking too. The pacing, the shooting, the editing, all had an old-school Western (or Indiana Jones) feel. Very much not like the Michael Bay/too tight/too quick business we get so much of today.

The problems at the box office were all in the marketing. Starting with the title. They shoulda called it John Carter and the Princess Of Mars, confidently yet subtly setting it up as the first of a series. This could have been supported by a campaign centering around the sweeping romantic adventure aspect of the story. Commercials focusing on Carter and Deja Thoris interacting heroically/romantically would have worked a hell of a lot better than a some Prince of Persia looking dude swinging a rock in the arena from the Star Wars sequel.

I'm not sure if the marketing of it was the problem. I liked it. It wasn't a homerun, but it was good fun. Much better than some critics made it out to be and a bit more deserving at the box office IMO.

BK... This is what you do. You put the kids to bed THEN you watch your show. Tell them it's daddy time then pop in Strawberry Shortcake the Bitty Berry Princess so you can enjoy it at your leisure.
