That gutters cartoon was mildly amusing and then downright sucked as soon as it got to herp, derp lerp. Their stuff is really hit or miss and this was a massive miss.

So yeah I finally got around to reading this issue today.

I really enjoyed the part about the Justice League, I thought it was really done well. I like the artwork on the Shazam part and I honestly don't have a problem with the name change, but making Billy Batson into a little douchebag, yeah that was just bad.

I actually quite enjoyed the back-up. Johns and Frank make a really great team, and I really liked the fake-out where you’re led to believe that Billy Batson is some kind of perfect little kid, when he’s actually a much more realistic character. I know some people want Captain Marvel to be all whimsy, all the time, but I think this take works, it looks like becoming Shazam will be what teaches Billy to be good. In fact, the only problem I have with it is the name-change, which is out of DC’s hands in a lot of ways, but other than that, this was a fine start to me.

Ya it is a bit over the top. I was just trying to show people that I understand why they don't like Shazam, I feel the same about Superman-Nu. Of course I was metaphorically speaking, it's not like I seriously want to make ashtrays out of people's teeth or anything.

I don't even think Billy is that bad. Sure he jumped to conclusions and assumed those people were idiots, but he makes podcasts commenting on the foster care system he obviously hates being subjected too. He strikes me as a crusader, a whistleblower who is trying to expose unsavory practices through his podcasts.

I love the podcast angle, nobody is going to listen to a kid on the radio, but kids on social media makes perfect sense.

This is just confirmation that this whole thing was a bad idea and story.

It just demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes Captain Marvel AND Billy Batson different from the likes of Superman and the rest of the DCU.

Billy was always the real hero and always played a larger role in the stories than either Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne. Even Ordway, whom I never thought was that great understood this, and Johns does not.

In three years this will not be in continuity, just like with Trials.
