If people outside of the comic community are even half way aware of your existence then Marvel has made them an Avenger.

That's 99.999% of the reason that it became the flagship book.

I'm really going to sound like a stubborn fanboy but this would have been so much better if it pitted the real X-Men and Avengers against each other. Sorry but the likes of Ben Grimm and Spider-man are not Avengers and Namor, Jugger-Colossus and Magento are not X-Men.

Thing joined the Avengers in 1986, Spider-Man joined in 1991.
