I don't know how I feel about Cena pointing out he basically doesn't give a fuck what the audience reaction is. I think it was well delivered, and I liked the "I rise about, and I win" line a lot, but it really is the thing that's infuriating about him a lot of the time.

Talking about the down times for the WWE, and how he's the face of the company even in those times, also is conflicting for me.

Referring to himself as a character is going too far, IMO.

I'm super conflicted about this whole thing, but the bit about a visitor coming in to take his job from him was great and the rant right after that about how he needs to win to remain #1 was great.

The Rock's response was a lot better than his original promo before Cena came out. Both guys definitely stepped up as this has gone along so far.

Rock talking about being the "greatest WWE Superstar of all time" really worked, IMO, especially when compared to Jericho and Punk using the very similar phrase but with "wrestler", as it sums up the differences between the two feuds and matches. Not in a bad way, either.

Cena's rebuttal was fantastic.

This has really turned into an awesome segment as it ended.

Really good show, IMO. Really shocked we didn't see Undertaker/HHH/HBK, though.

Yeah being there live before RAW started HBK and HHH came out to do some stuff just for the live audience so I really kept expecting them to show up at some point on RAW. They kept playing all the promos about the match at WM between HHH and Taker but then nothing ever happened. I read this morning that all involved thought they set up everything perfectly last week and wanted tonight to be all about Rock vs Cena.

What HHH and HBK did was really funny though. Jinder Mahal was in the ring speaking in Indian which no one could understand, then the DX music hits and they come out acting all silly especially HBK. He goes and waits in the corner while HHH takes the mic and makes fun of Mahal and not being able to understand a damn thing he says, and says he has two words that everyone can understand: SUCK IT!! He spins Mahal around into a Superkick from Michaels and then Mahal gets Pedigreed. The do their DX stuff and then as they are finishing up HBK grabs the mic and says, "that was fun and all but I'm still better than you!" and runs off laughing, while HHH also laughing chases him to the back.

Watching the John Cena/The Rock special exemplifies every reason why these two guys are without a shadow of a doubt my two favorite wrestlers of all time. The Rock is the greatest in ring entertainer from every aspect of the definition to ever step into a ring. Guys like Jericho, HBK, Bret, were all amazing in ring workers that the Rock will never be at the same level at as far as that goes, but the way the Rock is able to captivate the crowd just by speaking a single word is just amazing, the only other man that I would say is better than the Rock at that would be Ric Flair. Rock just had that crossover appeal that has made him so much more than just a wrestling superstar, he is a megastar that has reached a level of popularity that I don't think any other wrestler even remotely has ever reached not even Hulk Hogan. John Cena I love for a totally different reason, while I enjoy everything he has done in wrestling, from the Dr. of Thuganomics to Super Cena, I love the guy. However thats not the reason why I am such a huge Cena fan, it's more about who he is and what he does as a man outside of the wrestling ring. The respect he shows to everyone, the time he takes for the fans, especially the Make a Wish Kids, things that he doesn't have to do but he does because he loves what he does and wants to show everyone he does these things because he does love wrestling so much. Right now I have that feeling I had when I was a kid, getting ready to watch Hogan and Warrior at Wrestlemania 6, this match Sunday is going to be nothing short of amazing, and I for one cannot wait to see Cena vs Rock at WM28, Sunday cannot get here fast enough!

I wonder how they’re going to embarrass him on tv.

I liked that but not that it was Christian. They've made those guys in that match look really bad the last couple of weeks.

Big day for wrasslin', today.

I started with last week's Smackdown! which was, overall, a solid episode. A lot of the wrestling was decent at best, save for the main event. The real delight of the show continues to be Bryan Danielson. I find it immensely entertaining that, for a guy who was often said could never make it in WWE because he didn't have the personality, Danielson is one of the top most well-rounded characters in all of WWE right now. The main event was definitely a good one.

Then I watched Atsushi Onita vs. Terry Funk in a no-ropes, barbed-wire, exploding ring match for YMotD. Crazy stuff, here. The explosions were neat and I just loved the crowd reacting to the close calls with the barbed wire. Then of course the ending, with Onita covering Funk to protect him and the music that played afterward. I enjoyed it immensely.

Then I watched Ring of Honor on SBG. A perfectly good episode leading into this weekend's iPPVs. The show perfectly built up each match without feeling like you were getting hit with stuff a mile a minute. Adam Cole vs. Michael Elgin was a fun match that didn't really click to the next level, surprisingly. The tag opener between WGTT vs. C&C Wrestling Factory I felt was more entertaining. The opening promo segment kind of exposed everyone as far as live mic work goes.

Back to the YMotD series. Next up I watched Brock Lesnar vs. Masahiro Chono vs. Kaz Fujita. This was Brock's debut. Not much to this one. I was surprised by how short it was, in fact. Watching Brock in action was fun and I really loved how Fujita and Chono at points worked together to attempt taking Brock out. I was also surprised to see Brock win, given it was his debut. I didn't keep up with his Japan-tenure.

Next I watched Edge vs. Rob Van Dam from Vengeance in 2006. Wow, I didn't remember this one and it was pretty great. Lots of huge spots from RVD and Edge, be it the somersault powerbomb or the powerbomb into the barricade or the flying bodyblock off the apron. I enjoyed it immensely. It kind of comes at you with a tinge of regret about what might have been though had RVD not screwed everything up.

Ended the evening with RAW. The show was a very good go-home show. The Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy stuff is just so much fun. David Otunga is becoming such a well-rounded star. I'm sure people still hate him, but he's been absolutely perfect in his role. I didn't like how Team Teddy rounded out and it sucks that Christian won't be able to work for Team Johnny, but what can you do? The tag opener was fun, while everything else was blase. The promo at the end though? That's called perfect execution. Cena nailed it, Rock nailed it. Can't wait to see 'em clash on Sunday.

Match of the Day goes to Edge vs. Rob Van Dam.

I forget that RVD really fucked up. I wonder how things would have been with him as one of the top guys.

I do wish Otunga was a good wrestler, everything else I really like.

A lot of the stuff they've shown but there was some new stuff. They had video from a few years ago of the Rock going back to Samoa and being made chief. It was pretty cool.

It was ok overall.

rdrsfn82 wrote:This opening match is OK, but once again watching Smackdown just before RAW made it a little odd considering they just had Shamus and Bryan in another of these kinds of matches with Miz and Punk instead of Kane and Orton.

Still, that's just a staple of the pre-PPV build, especially pre-WM.

Anyways decent match, though the ending is how I thought the WM match with Shamus/Bryan would end, so now I have no idea where they are going to go and I could see AJ costing Bryan.

I was thinking that it's really counter productive to have all these guys face off before their big matches. :smt102

I really hated the AJ interference. It could just turn them into a clichéd heel couple, it was so great that Bryan was taking advantage of her naivete..

I was thinking Rey would come out for Team Teddy but not, I honestly don't know what they are going to do, Team Johnny looks strong with talent while Team Teddy looks like Job Squad version B. Miz costing them the match would be sweet though. I hope Christian is not legit hurt that would suck.

I think both champions will retain, there is so much more that can be done with them, and Daniel's gimmick works better as a champion anyway.

I can't get into HHH vs. Taker, I would have rather seen him fight someone new. I guess it will be interesting to see what Vince respects more HHH's ego or Untertaker's streak

Cena cut a great promo but so did Rock, if I have to pick a favorite I'll go with Cena, I agree a lot with what Cena is saying about Rock to an extent. I was always a huge fan of the Rock'S mic work but never of his ring work.

I was expecting Rey too. Kofi's enterance was pretty cool!

Not that the belt matters but I really hope he retains.

I think he'll lose and move on to Sheamus for the heavy weight title.

I would love to see a Cody vs Sheamus feud for the title that would be pretty awesome. I am really thinking though that Jericho is going to be drafted to Smackdown shortly after WM28 or the PPV after and he will be feuding with Sheamus for the title on Smackdown.
