Soundgarden Records First New Song in 15 Years for End credit track "Live to Rise" to be included in Avengers Assemble Compilation, released May 1st along with Original Motion Picture Soundtrack!

BURBANK, Calif., March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Marvel Music/Hollywood Records announce the return of Soundgarden with the release of the band's first song in 15 years, "Live to Rise." The song will be featured in the end credits to this year's highly anticipated movie, "Marvel's The Avengers." "Live to Rise" is included on Avengers Assemble, a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film. Avengers Assemble will be released on May 1, 2012.

Soundgarden stated, "We've been hard at work on our new album, which will come out this Fall. When the opportunity arose to write an original song for 'Marvel's The Avengers' film came our way, we thought it could be a cool match. We are excited to release our new song 'Live To Rise,' which is also the only new song in the film. Here's a taste. Loudest of Love." http://youtu.be/lVWjZ6Hk9Jg

Also, The Avengers original motion picture soundtrack, with score by Oscar®-nominated and GRAMMY-winning composer Alan Silvestri ("Captain America: The First Avenger," "Forrest Gump," the "Back to the Future" trilogy) will be available at online retailers on May 1, 2012.

With over 21 million records sold worldwide, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. At the dawn of 2010, the band, Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd, announced a new beginning. In the last two years since Soundgarden has reunited, they have headlined festivals, toured the world and released their first retrospective titled Telephantasm which included the previously unreleased song, "Black Rain" and their first live album, Live on I-5. The press has exalted their return to the stage and the music scene. Rolling Stone called their headline performance at Lollapalooza "an epic set ... a blueprint of the Seattle sound," where the Chicago Tribune hailed them as "one of the last great hard-rock bands to emerge in the last 25 years." The band are currently in the studio in Seattle writing and recording their first LP in over 15 years, which is set for release in 2012.

In addition to Soundgarden's "Live to Rise," the Avengers Assemble collection features original songs inspired by the exciting and action-packed film event. The diverse range of artists includes Rise Against, Shinedown, Bush and Redlight King.

The Avengers Assemble track list follows:

1. Live to Rise Performed by Soundgarden

Soundgarden is cool and all, but the rest of the soundtrack looks like shit. I hope these songs aren't too prevalent in the movie. I hate when a movie immediately dates itself with a soundtrack (see Daredevil, for example).

That sounds like a lot of crappy music.

I'll be interested in hearing the Soundgarden track at least. Although Chris Cornell's voice is pretty well shot, if the concert footage I've seen is any indication, at least they'll be able to clean it up in the studio.

Technically, that track listing is from: "Avengers Assemble, a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film""

So the actual soundtrack might not be quite as bad (though it probably will).

Lots of butt-metal.

I don't know who a lot of those bands are, and the ones I've heard of are bands I don't like. Still, new Soundgarden. I'm all for that.

His voice is fine. I saw Soundgarden at Lollapalooza in 2010, and saw him during his acoustic tour this past fall..

Clearly the dude is not in his 20's anymore.

It's 20 years later. Voices change. But the guy can still belt it out, man. Even 20 years later, he still has one of the best voices in rock.

I don't think these soundtracks feature songs from the actual movie. Because I didn't hear any Taylor Swift or whatever during the Hunger Games. Or whatever big song kept being hyped.

Right, they say in the article, this is released alongside the soundtrack. It's a way to make double the money I guess.

I think this is the show I heard. It's whatever has been making the rounds on Palladia.

In any event, while the band is solid, Cornell's voice is not terribly strong, especially during the verses. It's a lot more evident in a decent mix, which this isn't unfortunately.

He can still sing okay, but he's definitely past his prime.

On the other hand, the more recent trend in movie soundtracks avoiding modern music trends has really killed off the era of great movie songs.

I dunno man.. he sounded pretty great live. That could just be a bad recording. Chris Cornell past his prime, still has a better voice than 95% of people in rock right now, IMO.

And here's one from his acoustic Songbook tour

what is this, 2003? what a terrible, terrible soundtrack. The Spiderman 2 soundtrack is still more relevant than this and still holds up relatively well.
