Android Phone Questions

Postby Keb » Sat Mar 31, 2012 11:17 am

Hey yeah so my Xperia X10 battery is up to its old tricks (doesn't last long, dies quickly even though I bought a new battery). Thus, I am fed up. Instead of waiting another year for an upgrade and I refuse to pay the early upgrade fee, I think I will buy a phone from an outside retailer or seller and just switch. I still want a droid (fucka blackberry and iphone) so I'm wondering which droid phone to go with. I don't have a small budget, I'm willing to pay up to $500 for a good phone.

Any tips? I'm looking at: Motorola Droid Razr or Samsung Galaxy S II (whatever the latest model is). I will also go with another one if I like it.

Help me find a phone!

My HTC Evo has been great for the last year and when I upgrade in a couple months I'll be looking there first.

The only complaint I have is that the battery sucks (which is why I always carry a charged spare with me (got three of them from Amazon for $2.50 each)).

Have you tried using an app that can turn 3g or 4g network connection off and on? I use the free version of juice defender and can make it a day without recharging with regular use. With light use, I can make it almost 2 days.

Samsung Galaxy S II. From everything I've read it's one of the best you can get here, which is the truly important thing to remember.

Here, we don't get all the same models as in the US plus they all don't come with the latest OS due to the SPs being lazy assholes who love to make the hardware and software proprietary to the few services they bother to provide. You'll also need to note which SP has which specific model, service, billing, etc. ... or you will be screwed. The Samsung Galaxy series is pretty much there with them all and has had good local reviews, but as with an iPhone... get some of the power/app managers to turn stuff off and off when you know you don't need it at that point to keep the battery going. All smartphones have this problem but then, how is a manufacturer to know what your specific usage will be?

Droid is barely here.

Mind you, you could go to any number of phone stores, as in the various Chinese malls, and have a selection of phones. But good luck getting them in English or full working with the services of your SP.

Those are widely available here and yes, have gotten some nice reviews.

HTC phones are also good it seems.

One other thing to think on, what will you really be using on the phone? This is another must to know when getting a smartphone.
Lots of people are talking about why there is such an attitude with users of Blackberrys and iPhones for either work or well.. not at work.

I have the HTC thunderbolt. Good phone but unless you have he extended battery it sucks your phone dry of power. What I do not care is the HTC is very slow on updates.

I like my Droid Razr for the form factor, but the Galaxy Nexus is the way to go if you want the best phone.

Galaxy Nexus is out of my price range (unless I find an amazing deal). Would go with the S II only because it's cheaper. :(

I know droids tend to have battery issues hence my wanting a newer model. I mainly use my phone for talk, text and email, but would also be web browsing, playing games and youtubing (regular stuff) with a possibility of music although that will eat a battery in no time. Technologically, I want it to last for a year and a half without being too outdated because I want to take my phone to another carrier when my contract is up.

I've learned a lot about battery care with my Xperia battery recently, so I know how to deal with that stuff now. I don't want a phone with a bunch of pre-loaded apps on it like my xperia (god I hate pre-loaded shit) because those can be killer on the battery.

Also thinking of upgrading my tablet (aka my ereader) to something better.

Bought a Galaxy Nexus. Was under budget.

Probably stolen. I'm contemplating upgrading my plan. I rarely ever get 3G coverage at home, so I'm not sure if LTE is worth it.

Excited to see what this shit can do.
