Thats something I would really like to see them try and do right now. Have Cena come out next week and talk about how he doesn't understand whats going on, why he lost to the Rock, why he got attacked by Lesnar. Lose a couple questionable matches, shaking his confidence making him doubt him self. Then have him get destroyed by Lesnar at one of the up coming PPVs and put him on the shelf until Royal Rumble. Have him be the surprise entrant at #1 and win the Rumble. Have him then start to build a winning streak leading into the WM29 match with The Rock where he wins the title.
I think that would give WWE time to build up some other stars. Give Cena time to heal up any nagging injuries, refresh himself, and then come back and more than likely gain a little acceptance from the people that hate him right now.
I wouldn't want to see him fight the Rock for the title. I wouldn't want to see the Rock win the title. There's no need for that.
And I don't really want to see Cena win the Rumble. Seeing him gone for months and months, only to come back and immediately beat every other relevant guy on the roster (or close to it) would be irritating and would just put him right back where he is right now in the eyes of the people that don't like him. I think seeing him get crushed by Lesnar and seeing him lose some matches to guys like Cody or whatever would be good, but what he needs more than anything is just a change in character to take shit more seriously, joke around less, act like he gives a fuck about winning and losing, and just generally break from his current routine. As much as I don't usually like losing streaks, I think that could be a good story for him, and seeing him trying to win the US Title or the IC Title (and failing) could be good for all involved. I actually think a good WM thing for him next year could be MitB. I'd enjoy seeing him lose quickly in the Rumble, hit his lowest point there, and then have him start getting back on track in February, before getting a shot at a MitB qualifying match against someone that seems a shoo-in (a Shamus/Jericho type of guy), where he pulls what feels like an upset. Then actually have him win MitB and use it like RVD did with a fair fight at a PPV later in the summer (or even the very next month).
Meanwhile, at WM I think we'll see Brock vs the Rock, and if Brock is actually working at least somewhat regularly (like the HBK schedule) I'd have no beef with him as champ going into this match and Rock trying to get the belt off of him. Have Brock win, then next month it's Cena trying to finish his road back against the guy the pushed him all the way off track by crushing him.
I think that's better than having him gone for a long time then beating everyone at the Rumble. And I think Brock makes for a better champ than the Rock at this point.
