Sydney Spies, a student at Durango High School in Colorado, was told she can't use this photo as her yearbook picture.

Is dressing like a pole dancer protected under the human rights code?

One Colorado teen may try to find out after the editors of her high school yearbook pulled her racy photo.

In the shot, Sydney Spies, an 18-year-old dancer and aspiring model, is dressed in a flouncy yellow miniskirt with nothing for a top but a black shawl tied around her chest. The school's administrators refused to allow the sexy picture, she told the Durango Herald.

But the yearbook's editors said it was their decision — and it had nothing to do with her revealing ensemble.

"We are an award-winning yearbook. We don't want to diminish the quality with something that can be seen as unprofessional," Brian Jaramillo is quoted as saying in the report.

But Spies and her mother believe the school officials influenced the yearbook editors, who initially voted in favour of allowing the photo.

"I wanted my daughter to cho(o)se a different photo but she is 18 and doesn't always listen!" Miki Spies wrote on Facebook. "Some are upset (th)at the administration is strong-arming the students."

Sydney said the decision violates her right to freedom of expression, and she may challenge it.

Mom Miki wrote: "We'll get the ACLU involved if they censor."

Racy photo? My god I lost count of the number of girls who's yearbook photos was essentially a B&W picture of them clutching a black sheet in a manner that makes it appear as though they're not wearing anything underneath.

This is a fairly old story. I think there has even been a few follow ups to it. :smt017

But yeah, I am actually on the schools side on this one. That is not an appropriate yearbook photo. Granted it has been a while since I have looked at a highschool yearbook, but I digress. :oops:

Sidenote: What the fuck is an "award winning yearbook" anyways? Who gives out awards for that shit? Show me a trophy assholes, your yearbook hasn't won shit. :smt011
