DC's Dark Line

Postby Stephen Day » Sat Apr 07, 2012 1:39 pm

The Dark is by far my favourite of DC's current lines of comics. The Dark and Vertigo make up the bulk of by current DC purchases, Firestorm and All-Star Western being the only two comics not published in either one of those.

The thing about what I've seen so far from the Dark is that it seems like what creators can get away with in these titles, other than perhaps nudity and swearing, isn't all that far from what could be done in Vertigo. I think I can understand why they wanted to move these characters away from Vertigo, but seeing the end product, there's a part of me that sees these series as essentially Vertigo titles anyway -- especially with Karen Burger getting involved in some editing very soon.

I was saying this very thing in the Box-O-Comics thread earlier. Aside from Batman, my top five DC books are currently from the Dark line...

I'm the same. The Dark crew and most of the Bat-offices are knocking it out of the park so far.

Honestly the Green Lantern and about half the Bat-books are what I'm down too.

You aren't alone here in this train of thought, Stephen Day. Even the titles I'm not interested in that line, the worst things I could say about those titles is that they're not for me or that it's being done better elsewhere (which doesn't mean the book is bad).

Quite honestly, if it weren't for "The Dark", I would most likely be only reading Vertigo's line as far as DC Comics are concerned.

I'm on the verge on dropping justice league dark. Just not feeling it, it feels more like a shadowpact book then a jl. I'm giving it another chance with the new writer.

Same, I did drop it at 6. I am going to pick it back up to give Lemire a chance.

Most of the NuDCU books I was interested when the reboot was announced were in this line. I've been a fan. I love I,Vampire, Swamp Thing, and Animal Man, and the rest of it is pretty solid.
The witness said Mr Brown then called out to Ms Hay's adult daughter: "Look at this, I'm tittie-f***ing your mother!".

I haven't bought any of the JL Dark issues but don't they all have supernatural-based powers ? I thought that was why Dr Fate (for example) could always see Deadman in JLA/JSA stories.

Kind of like how the vampires and werewolves can see the ghosts in "Being Human".
