It might be the Han Solo qualities that the character is suppose to have. Charming, Daring, Rogue.

I don't really know to be honest, I just like the character. In my opinion I think that visually he looks interesting. I also like his personality and feel that it works for him as a character. Like I said, I don't think that he needs his own series but I have always enjoyed Gambit.

That's why I liked him as a kid. Don't know how I overlooked the horrible costume.

Don't underestimate those things you described -- these are still comic books. This is absolutely still a visual medium. Gambit's look is distinctive, his personality is distinctive, and depending on the creative team, I absolutely might read this.

This is a character who could be what Wolverine used to be, before he became The Killer Who Can't Be Killed: A character who exposes a darker side of the Marvel Universe, uses methods that are questionable, but is still a hero.

I like Gambit too but haven't all his prior mini-series been low sellers ? This one will need a really good spin.

I was loving all things X-Men when Gambit debuted.

There were always problems I had with him.
1. the way he talked. I wish someone would retcon that.
2. the costume. Always hated the design and color scheme.

THe one Larocca designed in Xtreme X-Men is a little generic, but way more preferable.

I understand why some people doubt Gambit's ability to sell solo. But I dunno... I look at the perennial popularity of the X-Men, and I can't help but think that they really should have more successful solo spinoff series other than Wolverine. I've looked at the LCS's back issue bins and scratched my head at seeing Rogue's, Nightcrawler's, and Gambit's previous solo ongoings end at issue 12 or 13. :smt017

How come Storm and Psylocke have only gotten one mini apiece, and that's it??
It's bizarre.

Whatsamatter?? Don't you Marvel fanboys like muties?? :smt102

I've tried some of them out. Many of them have been ok at best and downright shit at other times. I think the quality says a lot for it.

Since when has low quality stopped many X-fans from buying X-books?? :P

Quite a few times.;)

Just saying that most of those solo series were made purely on the name rather than having any real reason to exist.

Not nearly enough fans stopped, because the X-Juggernaut has just kept chugging along -- and I ain't talking about Cain Marko. :P

Which is a shame.

If someone can make a muck-encrusted monster like Swamp Thing interesting on his own, someone should be able to make most of the popular X-Men work by themselves.

Agreed. But most of them seem so non-essential that it's crazy.
