I wasn't aware of the Brock/Henning thing

The return of Brock Lesnar to WWE has people wondering if it will help the career of Michael McGillicutty as Lesnar and McGillicutty's father Curt Hennig were very close friends. As of last week there hadn't been any discussion about pushing McGillicutty but it's said that Lesnar's clout can't hurt McGillicutty's standing with the company.

On a related note, McGillicutty worked his NXT match last night against Tyson Kidd with a case of food poisoning. The match received rave reviews from people backstage including "Road Dogg" BG James. Kidd vs. McGillicutty will air today on NXT.

I didn't know that, but it makes sense. They were both Minnesota guys.

But on the other hand if Brock leaves in a huff they'll likely take it out on him.

WWE.com has a feature on the DDP/Randy Savage feud from 1997. This was one of my favorite feuds in WCW because it always seemed like they really hated each other and they had 'fights' instead of matches. The feud never had a title involved, just hatred.

Wasn't Mr Perfect and Brock Lesnar involved in the 'Flight from Hell' like 10 years ago that led to Mr Perfect being fired?

If backstage fights can be seen as "shoot wrestling matches", the infamous "Plane Ride from Hell" of 2002 can easily be considered the Royal Rumble of such events.

In an unnecessary real life example of why alcohol, planes, and jocks do not mix, the WWE RAW crew virtually imploded during a fateful plane ride back to the states after the WWE Insurrextion pay-per-view in London.

The events during the Plane Ride from Hell played out like a bad, overbooked episode of RAW.

Then road agent and WWE Hall of Famer "Freebird" Michael Hayes was one of the key figures during the chaos that ensued on that plane.

Hayes would enter into a war of words with, you guessed it, JBL. JBL promptly laid out Freebird, thus setting the tone for an ominous chain of events to warrant such a demonic nickname for a flight.

Upon falling asleep, Michael Hayes received an impromptu haircut (many believe Sean "X-Pac" Waltman was the culprit), and the subsequent picture was later posted backstage at the next RAW show.

The fun continued with an intoxicated Ric Flair parading around the plane wearing nothing but his trademark robe.

Providing the evening's entertainment, Dustin "Goldust" Rhodes used the flight's PA system to serenade his ex-wife Terri Runnels in an uncomfortable display.

Oddly enough, Rhodes' serenade was one of the few occurrences that compelled then President of talent relations Jim Ross to enforce his authority by shutting down the impromptu Karaoke.

Curt Henning and a soon-to-be comatose Scott Hall managed to get their hands on canisters of shaving cream.

The contents inside the cream would wind up on multiple individuals.

But the fun didn't stop there for Henning. The man once known as Mr. Perfect had become liquored up enough to challenge NCAA World Class Wrestler and former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar to a fight, insisting he was a better amateur wrestler than Brock.

Did they check these guys for PCP?

In what would prove to be the climax of the Plane Ride from Hell, Lesnar shot in and drove Henning into the side of the plane, coming dangerously close to a plane door.

The events were enough to warrant repercussions that were as newsworthy as the joyride itself.

Both Curt Henning and Scott Hall were released from their contracts as a result of their actions on this infamous plane ride.

In a flight where President of talent relations Jim Ross, road agents Michael Hayes, Gerry Briscoe, Dave Finley, and Arn Anderson, senior writers Stephanie McMahon (the boss' daughter), Paul Heyman, and WWE's conscious The Undertaker were all present, the summation of authoritative stroke on that plane did not stop some of the most outrageous personalities in wrestling from going buck wild.

This, along with the multiple isolated conflicts resulting from one plane ride, and the ensuing casualties, is what makes The Plane Ride from Hell the most infamous shoot brawl between wrestlers in WWE history.

WWE's live Super Smackdown: Blast from the Past drew a 1.5 rating, down from the 1.9 rating from last week's recorded show that aired on Friday, and down from the 1.67 the last live Smackdown earned on February 21

Getting to TNA levels.

I didn't even know it was on yesterday until I came to this thread. It looks like nobody else did either.

I was really disappointed in Smackdown.

I thought it was gonna be like the OLD SCHOOL RAW awhile back but they put 0% effort into making the show feel special. Same old ropes, same old set, same old everything. Half the segments didn't even make sense.

I've heard that plane ride from hell story referenced before, but not the details like that.

I pray JR writes a book and has that as a chapter. That is absolutely wacky

Following his arrest last week for domestic violence after allegedly choking his girlfriend in a drunken rage, Scott Hall is denying he got violent.

Hall's lawyer Loredana Nesci tells TMZ that he did NOT choke his girlfriend, even though his girlfriend Lisa Howell told police at the time that Hall grabbed her by the throat and tried ripping her out of her car. Police observed multiple signs of injury on Howell, including red marks around her neck, so Hall was arrested.

Hall's lawyer still denies that her client got violent, telling TMZ:

"The police arrested Mr. Hall against the wishes of Ms. Howell, who insisted that the argument did not result in violence. Ms. Howell claims that there was no physical abuse."

Hall's girlfriend refused to press charges, but police saw the marks on her neck, which were grounds for an arrest.

Hall's lawyer maintains that he and Lisa Howell have a [wait for it] "peaceful and amicable relationship."

Day 102.

I watched Ring of Honor today. A good episode after some underwhelming ones. A bit strange to have the March Madness tournament payoff in April, though.

The Young Bucks had a decent opener that served ultimately to further their personas. Matt Tavern and Mike Mondo had a surprisingly good match which made me want to actually see more of them.

The big news came out of Inside ROH and a press conference held recently regarding the upcoming Border Wars (which isn't going to be on GFL according to Kevin Kelly). Steen and Richards had another confrontation which resulted in the match being made for 5/12 - Kevin Steen vs. Davey Richards for the ROH Championship in Toronto. Should be a great match.

The main event was Mike Bennett vs. Jay Lethal vs. Tommasso Ciampa vs. Adam Cole in the March Madness finals. Pretty good match that was very well-booked. Bennett was eliminated first, by Lethal, then Lethal was eliminated almost immediately by Ciampa. Ciampa and Cole went at it for a good seven minutes and the crowd got really hot for it, but Ciampa ended up winning.

Match of the Day goes to Mike Bennett vs. Tommasso Ciampa vs. Adam Cole vs. Jay Lethal.

I started downloading every Raw from 1999 today. The USA network version and not the lame Fox version from Australia. I already have 97 and 98 including PPVs.
