Comic Book Subscription Club

Postby tdbgroup » Fri Apr 13, 2012 6:46 pm

Hi everyone! My name is Felix. I tried to figure out what would be the best and most appropriate place on the forum to post this and I decided that this would be it. If I was wrong, I apologize and kindly ask the moderators to move it to the appropriate place.

I am starting a comic book subscription club and I wanted to get your opinions and thoughts about it. Here is what I am looking to do (read below) After you read it, I am 100% open to comments, suggestions, and any input that you may have. Thanks in advance.

Here it is:

I am starting a monthly comic book subscription club where we deliver amazing comics to you every month. You will receive comic books from the 2000s, 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, and even the occasional 50s. You’ll get Marvel, DC, and smaller Indy publishers like Dark Horse, Image Comics and Icon, as well as others. Since you never know what you will receive, it’s like getting a surprise birthday present every month!

Where do these comic books come from? We search out and purchase private collections. We then remove any comics that are in bad shape. There is absolutely no cherry picking! So you get a completely random mix of common, semi-rare, and rare comics. We then ship them to you in a protective bubble mailer. All comic books are in Fine or better condition and are individually bagged and boarded. And just to spice things up a bit, we seek out and separately purchase signed comic books which we randomly add into the mix.

We offer 3 subscription levels: $4.99/mo for 1 comic, $7.99/mo for 2 and $9.99/mo for 3 (shipping is included). There are no contracts, so you can cancel any time.

Please provide any input that you may have.

Thanks again,

Felix

The best place would be to contact us at press@theouthousers.com

I say this not to be a dick, but because the community doesn't respond well to what they view as people who sign up on the forum just to sell a product, as you will likely see with the hostile responses that will likely show up in this thread shortly (if not by the time I've finished typing this). :P

That being said, no harm no foul, please do feel free to email us. :)

Thank you for the information. I didn't mean to come off as selling something, as there is nothing yet to sell. I just have an idea that I wanted to get some feedback on. If I get positive feedback and move forward with this project, I will deffinetly email you with the launch announcement. Once again thank you for the info.

No problem. It doesn't bother me, I'm just basing my expectation on the years of experience I have in seeing similar threads and how they go down. :P

As to your idea, I wonder how viable it is in the current market. In the early nineties when the speculator rage was booming, I could see a lot of people interested in getting random issues of comics, but nowadays when the comics audience seems to consist primarily of readers, I think most people are interested in reading full runs, or at least longer consecutive runs, so I'm not sure how much interest there would be in the random single issue format. There might be some interest from people looking to discover something new which might cause them to go out and look for more issues of the same comic, or something like that. Or there might be more interest amongst less hardcore readers, I dunno.

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

So I have been getting positive feedback so far and have received a suggestion that I will be incorporating into the subscription club.

-Each subscriber will be able to choose which publisher(s) they want to receive. So you will be able to pick if you want to receive Marvel, DC, Indy, or a combination of them.

Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks

Felix

How do you randomize your selections? Will you offer proof that the selections are truly random, or that you've followed your "random" process for selecting the comics? Will you provide a list of the collection you are pulling from to entice people? I mean, if I joined your club and got nothing but crappy, common comics, I may start wondering if your collection consists solely of crappy, common comics, and that the rare gem will never come because it doesn't exist.

You bring up a valid point. I think that if I was able to provide such proof, that would be valuable. Do you have any ideas or suggestions for how I may be able to provide proof or what I can do to entice people?

Thank you for your feedback, I truly appreciate it.
