Prior Military

Postby MistaT » Fri Apr 13, 2012 7:50 pm

Have any of you ever served your country?

I was in the US Army 91-95 and the US Navy 97-99.

Loved the Army (best 4 years of my life) and hated the Navy (so much that I forced them to kick me out, lol). Between the two though I got to do and see some very cool shit.

I have fired an M-16 (qualified expert, achieved Hawkeye 3 times), M-60 (qualified expert), M-203 (qualified expert) and once fired a mounted 50 cal. off the back of a humvee. I've rode in a M-1 Abrams tank (although it was a very short distance). Saw a joint exhibition between European forces to see who could blow the most shit up (Apache was the coolest hands down). In the Navy I was in an F-14 squadron that was attached to the USS John F. Kennedy. While on the 6 month med cruise I was able to be on deck of the carrier during as jets were taking off and landing. Although not in one of the jets, I had to be flown home once while at sea due to a family emergency, so I have actually been in a plane that was shot off of a carrier.

Between being stationed in Germany in the Army and doing the Med cruise in the Navy I have seen a good portion of Europe. Hmmm...oh yeah, I was also in the brig for 2 months in the Navy which was kinda cool.

What about you guys?

No medical problems kept me out, I prolly would have joined the Air Force. My brother was in it.

Had a good friend that was in the Air force. They get a lot flack from the other branches for being a bunch of pussies, but I guess they are ok.

Oh, and I was also part of a 4 week training course for the SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape) program that all US special forces and pilots have to undergo. My units job was to basically play the role of the enemy and antagonize highly trained individuals that could kill you six ways from Sunday before you even knew they were there. So yeah, that was fun too.

I was in the Navy for a few years. I really hated it but I got to go to some awesome places that I obviously never would have if not for being in the Navy.

Was stationed in San Diego, Hawaii, and Japan. Got to go to the most southern tip of South America, stopping in Panama, Ecuador and a few other places. I remember one of the ports we stopped at when we went ashore, this really hot little south american chick ran up and snatched my White Sox hat I was wearing right off my head. I started to chase after her but there was no point. When we were in Panama I met this really hot chick that was down there from Minnesota on Spring Break, spent 3 awesome days with her let me tell you! The biggest thing I remember about being down there though was in Ecuador, it was the hottest fucking place I have ever been in my life!

We also made trips up the west coast of the US stopping in Seattle which was really cool, because this was around the time that the "Grunge" music scene was just starting to get really big. I saw Alice In Chains there at a small bar and it was pretty awesome. We even made it as far North as Canada once which was pretty cool. Everything where we were was so beautiful.

When we were changing our ships homeport from San Diego to Yokosuka Japan we had to stop for almost 3 months in Hawaii because we had to have one of the ships engines replaced. So the ship was put into dry dock for and we got to live in on base housing for 3 months and basically get paid to hang out in Hawaii which was pretty awesome. A friend of mine were in a record store there one day and some people were talking about Pearl Jam doing a concert at an Ampitheater on on of the other islands. So we went and took a helicopter over to the other island not even sure if we would get tickets or not, luckily we found a scalper and got tickets. The show was fucking amazing too, well worth every penny.

Going to Japan was awesome, and something I wish I could do again some day. Seeing how vastly different their culture is from ours was just mind blowing. I mean like for instance if you get on a subway here it is full of loud obnoxious people all trying to talk over one another. There every one was so quiet and respectful, like a bizzaro world or something. Got to see a lot of amazing shit over there, that had I never been in the Navy I would have missed out on.

Ended up coming back to San Francisco for a about a month before I got out of the Navy. I had been there a few times already when I was stationed in San Diego so I knew my way around pretty well. Hanging out at Fishermens Wharf was awesome, and there was a comic book shop with walking distance that was excellent so I spent a lot of time there as well.

Like I said I really hated the Navy big time, but the experiences I had the, the places I went, the things I did, and the people I met were well worth it.

Awesome. I really wanted to get over to Japan or anywhere in Asia really, but I got no complaints with Europe (can you say "Red Light District")

What did you do in the Navy? I was a parachute rigger, which basically translates into "the pilots bitch".

Yes the girl that I was talking about that stole my hat was most likely from said "Red Light District". I was a GSE or Gas Turbine System Technician Electrical, so I spent most of my time down in the engine rooms. I was on a Destroyer the USS O'Brien, I am guessing you were on an Air Craft Carrier?

I was. The USS JFK. My med cruise was the last tour it made before it was decommissioned.

We spent most of my time in helping out chasing down drug runners up down the west coast of South and Central America. Right after I got out the ship got sent back to the middle east again, I was glad a didn't have to go there again. Whats the longest stretch out at sea you ever spent?

6 months, the Med cruise. It was then that I decided, "you know what...fuck this shit!"

For like the last month I refused to get out of my bunk (except to eat or smoke). The (ex)wife and I were going through some stuff and I just couldn't take it anymore. I tried everything to get separated, cussed out the CO, told them I was gay, that my marriage was falling apart (it was) but they wouldn't let me out. So after we got back I went UA and was then court martialed and sentenced to 60 days in the brig (the best time I had in the Navy) and given an administrative discharge under less than honorable conditions.

Like I said in an earlier post my job was essentially catering to the pilots every need. Along with taking care of their flight gear (to include emptying their piss bags and cleaning up their vomit out of the oxygen masks) we had to do their laundry, bring them meals and whatever else it was they needed at the time. It was hell. Out of the 14 or so pilots in our squadron there were like 1 or 2 cool ones. The rest were cocky little pricks that had watched Top Gun one too many times and thought their shit didn't stink.

Damn thats some fucked up shit. I was also discharged early as well, a "convenience of the government" discharge. I had a pretty shit attitude about being in the Navy as I said already that I hated being in service. Because of that I tended to get into trouble a lot, nothing major just not showing up for muster, and not having the proper haircut, attire, shit like that. So I would get sent to work on the mess decks a lot as punishment. Sometimes for up to 45 days at a time on the mess decks, which really sucked. Well one day after pulling double duty on the mess decks, being there from like 4am til 9pm I was fucking spent. The one guy that was somewhat a supervisor of us, but not really ranked any higher than me comes in drunk from partying all day. He starts to give me shit about my job and all this other shit, and I just ignored him, trying to finish up my work so I can go to fucking sleep. Well he proceeds to pick up a metal napkin holder and throw it right at the back of my head. Well when that shit hit my head I fucking snapped! I turned around and jumped over 2 tables tackling the guy and knocking him on his ass. I just started punching him in the face over and over again, just really beating the shit outta this fuckhead. There were two other guys in there that were playing cards and they ran over and pulled me off him and I started to try and fight with them too. Finally one of the ship guards made his way into the mess decks and ended up tasering me. Next thing I know I wake up in the hospital strapped to a gurney, fucking dazed as hell. There are these bright lights all in my face and I can't really see shit but I can hear all kinds of shit going on around me. Shit breaking, people screaming, all kinds of fucked up shit. When I am finally able to see clearly I look over and there is this big black dude, and when I say big I mean, like incredible hulk big, this fucker is huge and buck ass nekkid. Not a single stitch of clothing on this man what so ever, his dick is just swinging in the breeze, while he is beating the fuck outta anyone that gets within his reach. There are at least half a dozen or more orderlies, doctors, and nurses, trying to sedate this guy who has broken needles and shit sticking out of his arms where they have been trying to put him down and he is just on a mad fucking path of destruction. I start freaking out because this dude is just picking shit up and slinging it all over the room so I am thinking I'm next and he is gonna kill me! I am struggling like crazy to get off the gurney, screaming for help, just trying to get the fuck outta that room. Finally the bring the guy down, he had gotten "slipped" something at a club or some shit and just tripped the fuck out big time. The doctors told me that I kept trying to fight everyone when they brought me in and that why I was being held down so I didn't hurt myself or anyone else. The gave me a bunch of psyche evals and shit made me stay in the hospital and have therapy and all that. They kept asking me what I wanted to do and I told them I just wanted to go the fuck home. They asked me what I would do if they sent me back to my ship and I told them I would fucking kill that guy that hit me in the head if they did. So after staying in the hospital for about a month they finally said they were sending me home. I was sent back to San Fran from Japan where I stayed for about another 3 weeks while they processed me out. I didn't have to do any brig time because the other two guys that were on the mess decks witnessed everything and said the other guy struck me first and I was just defending myself. My discharge wasn't dishonorable or anything but I lost all my benefits and shit like that but I didn't care, I was just happy to get the fuck outta there.

I came really close to punching out my XO. When I was going through my whole "fuck you, I ain't doing this shit no more" phase he was the biggest prick of them all. And when I say "biggest" I mean that literally. The fucker was a fat slob, everyone hated him. We kept having to come up with new ways to extend his gear so it would fit his fat ass. But apparently he was a really excellent pilot, so they kinda put up with it. But yeah, I had thought about hitting someone to try and get separated, and he was the one I picked. Unfortunately although he was a class A dick, he never really did anything to warrant me hitting him and I'm not that much of an asshole to hit someone for no reason.
