Let's hope this isn't a screwball adaptation. And please, God, no explosions.
Vince Vaughn to play James Garner role in ‘The Rockford Files’ for UniversalDaniel S Levine
4/17/2012
http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/201 ... -universalUniversal is planning a film adaptation of the 1970s series The Rockford Files, which starred James Garner as Detective Jim Rockford. The studio has Wedding Crashers star Vince Vaughn in mind for Garner’s role.
Deadline first reported the project Tuesday, noting that Vaughn will also produce the film through his Wild West Picture Show Productions, which is based at Universal. Rounders screenwriters David Levien and Brian Koppelman have been tapped to pen the script for the film.
Vaughn has starred in a couple of movies where he has had to don a 1970s look, notes Cinema Blend. He starred in the 2004 adaptation of Starsky & Hutch and also went back in time for Anchorman. However, it is not known if Universal plans to set the film in the past or give it a modern spin.
The Rockford Files is among several projects Vaughn has in the works. He was recently cast in Fox’s The Interns, which will reunite him with Wedding Crashers co-star Owen Wilson. He also stars with Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill in Neighborhood Watch, which hits theaters in July.
It is also the second major project announced for Levien and Koppelman in less than a week. They wrote Runner, Runner for New Regency, which will star Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake.
The Rockford Files ran from 1974 to 1980 and starred Garner as an ex-con who becomes a private detective.

I could see him being good in the part if they wanted to keep a similar tone to the old show.

Maybe they'll give it the 21 Jump Street makeover?

Look at the bright side, Eli. They could have cast Ben Stiller as Rockford.

I think Vaughn could be a good fit. Though question is if it goes comedy than it will be very tarnished.
Of course they could have Vaughn play Rockford son so we can see Gardner again. Sure like Maverick.

I cannot summon words adequate enough to express my dislike of Vince Vaughn. Another movie I might have seen that goes straight into the trash bin.

I really don't like Vince Vaughn either. He reminds me of bullies or jerks or something.

Yeah, as long as he doesn't play every Vince Vaughn character.

was Rockford kind of chubby?
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.
