Dark Shadows Star Frid Dead

Cult actor Jonathan Frid has died, aged 87.

Frid passed away on 13 April from natural causes at Juravinski Hospital in Ontario, Canada.

The actor was best known for playing vampire Barnabus Collins in '60s supernatural TV soap opera Dark Shadows, which is the subject of an upcoming big screen remake directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp in the role made famous by Frid. The actor makes a cameo appearance in the film and it was fittingly his final screen role.

Other notable credits include roles in The Devil's Daughter and 1974 horror film Seizure.

Frid's former Dark Shadows co-star Kathryn Leigh Scott paid tribute to the actor on her official website, writing, "I am so grateful to have worked with Jonathan and to have known him as the charismatic, entertaining, complex and plain spoken man that he was. What fun we had working together! He was irascible, irreverent, funny, caring, lovable and thoroughly professional, and in the end became the whole reason why kids ran home from school to watch Dark Shadows."

Not surprisingly given he was 87 but kind of surprising it being on the eve of the release of the Dark Shadows movie. Personally I blame Dick Clark.

Seriously. I know of folks who did just that ! Sad news. The guy was an icon back in the day.

On the funnier side, if you search on-line you can find clips from a couple of their Closing Credits. Back then some eps were live, others were taped but they never edited anything. A few times he didn't realize which set they were using for the closing credits, and he walked right into the shot in his street clothes. One time picking his nose

I love the original Dark Shadows, and Frid was so great.

* - I doubt it'll suck as it's Tim Burton flick and has Johnny Depp in it, but hell.. some folks hate Burton and everyone makes one or two clunkers in their career.

Depp is good, he's no Skeet Ulrich but whatever. Burton however is to directing what Nic Cage is to acting. Horrible for the most part but when he's on his game we get amazing stuff (like once a decade).
