Stupid decision. :smt011 Oh well, it's his life, his comic-book career, etc. :smt102

I am confused, was DC ethical when Izombie was being published, or did they become unethical after it was cancelled?

While I think it's great that he wants to do whatever he wants, I find his reasons stupid.

Alan Moore and Jack Kirby are not martyrs. They were people who weren't smart enough to hire good lawyers before signing contracts.

Were they? Or did DC just exploit loopholes and changes in the market that neither could have expected?

It's easy to say with the benefit of hindsight that the contract was bad, but as has been pointed out before, when Watchmen was being written, there wasn't really a concept of trade-paperback collections allowing titles to remain in print indefinitely.

And of course, how were the golden age creators supposed to know that their creations would survive so long and become movies?

Alan Moore wasn't a Golden Age creator.

Kirby was a terrible businessman.

Marvel and DC did nothing legally wrong. You could argue that what they did was morally wrong, but they are businesses. They have to look out for their best interests. Not letting Watchmen go out of print may be a sneaky move, but it's no different than what is being done to Marvel by the movie studios that own the rights to their movies. There's a reason we keep seeing things like Wolverine Origins and X-Men: First Class and Elektra.

Did I say he was a Golden Age creator? No.

I find it sad that you think something being legally okay trumps it also morally wrong, especially in this case, nobody is saying Moore or Roberson should sue DC, just that it's good for them to take moral stances.

When did having morals turn into being stupid? Is that what society has become now?

I didn't say having morals was stupid. I think his reasoning is stupid.

Good for him for believing in something, but burning bridges because you are supporting a crazy old man is dumb. Again, Before Watchmen may not be your thing, but DC has every right to do it and the creators that are working on it have every right to as well. Nobody is being screwed, except probably the readers who will have to read this (probable) crap.

Alan Moore would say he's being screwed.

And I find it offensive when you call one of the greatest writers the medium of comics has ever known crazy, he doesn't seem crazy to me, just principled.

Do you find it offensive if I call Van Gogh crazy? He is one of the greatest painters the medium of art has ever known. He was also batshit insane.

Alan Moore is nuts. He's a great writer, but he's one step away from his tinfoil hat fitting.

I've never met Van Gogh or read/watched an interview with him, I have with Moore. I don't think he's crazy. Having a massive beard doesn't make you crazy, not being solely motivated by money doesn't make you crazy. Worshipping a snake puppet god is a little weird, but I don't think anybody knows if that's serious or a joke.
